Requirements Education and Experience Master’s Degree or Higher in Biostatistics, Statistics, Biomedical Informatics, or a related field and three (3) years of experience in statistical or biostatistical analysis.

Licenses and Certificates Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state by the date of appointment.

General Purpose Under general supervision, provides leadership in planning, developing, and directing advanced biostatistical work in support of public health programs. Applies basic and advanced statistical research methods to analyze data and support public health decision‑making.

Typical Duties

Provides biostatistical consultation to support planning, program implementation, evaluation, and research activities. Confers with managers to develop project objectives and determine required methods of data collection, analysis, compilation, tabulation, and reporting.

Develops data processing methodologies and reviews reports and forms to determine necessary modifications; assists managers in developing narrative reports and statistical data presentations to be used in project development, operation, and evaluation.

Implements statistical reporting procedures; prepares procedures manuals for use in coding, entering, and tabulating data. Designs forms for use in data collection and compilation, and prepares report formats.

Provides technical support to personnel engaged in reporting and processing data. Assists in evaluating program objectives and the integration of computer application processes.

Coordinates the department's statistical data reporting capabilities to ensure deadlines are met and necessary information is communicated to regulatory agencies and other stakeholders.

Assists outside agencies and individuals seeking statistical information for use in planning and research investigations.

Initiates, plans, develops, and directs biostatistical studies. Involves collecting, organizing, and storing data for analysis and future reference.

Reviews data quality, identifies analytical needs, and ensures datasets meet statistical and research standards.

Conducts statistical analyses to evaluate performance and recommends improvements.

Analyzes local, county, state, and national demographic and health data to assess population impacts.

Reviews internal reports and publications to prepare and monitor special or annual reports.

Establishes and maintains disease or condition registries as needed.

Collaborates with diverse partners to strengthen data‑informed decision‑making.

Prepares and delivers presentations to diverse audiences, including local, county, state, and national groups.

Prepares manuscripts, reports, and presentations for professional conferences and publications.

Supervises assigned staff. Schedules, assigns, instructs, guides, and checks work. Appraises employee performance. Provides training and development. Enforces personnel rules and regulations and work behavior standards firmly and impartially. Counsels, motivates, and maintains harmony. Interviews applicants and recommends hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, or other employee status changes.
