DOT Highway Electrical Technician (Transportation Maintainer 2) – Department of Transportation, Milford Electrical Facility, Milford, CT.
Salary: $57,724–$74,956 per year. Posted: 10/23/2025 – Open to Public. Closing: 11/3/2025 11:59 PM.
Overview The purpose of this position is to perform electrical repairs, installation, and maintenance of the Department's traffic lights and highway illumination within District 2. Upon successful completion of a 2‑year training period, the incumbent may be promoted to Qualified Craft Worker (Electrical) class.
Schedule & Work Hours
Monday – Friday
Full Time, 40 hours per week
First Shift, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Key Responsibilities
Perform electrical repairs, installation, and maintenance of traffic signals and highway lighting within District 2.
Execute high voltage repairs to highway lighting and traffic signals.
Work at heights in a bucket truck on highways and secondary roads.
Accept emergency duty assignments, including snow and ice removal and mandatory winter overtime from November 1 through April 30.
Assist in preparation and checking of reports, and operate two‑way radios as required.
Support other transportation and electrical supervisors as directed.
Qualifications & Requirements
Hold a current and valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tank endorsement (Class A or B).
Provide a valid Medical Examiner's Card (MEC) at time of interview.
Willing to accept assignment to emergency duties (e.g., snow removal) including potential overtime during winter months.
Reside within a 30‑mile radius of the posted job location.
Bring a copy of the applicant's Master Application and completed CTDOT‑CDL‑1 form (Commercial Driver Supplement) to the interview.
Show required electrical knowledge and experience on application; specify electrical education.
Prior to hire, complete respirator fit test and physical assessment in compliance with the Respirator Policy.
