A day in the life (2nd shift)
By 3:05 p.m., you’ve reviewed the maintenance log, prioritized an unplanned line stoppage, and teamed up with another tech to isolate an intermittent sensor fault. Later, you’re aligning a drive assembly with precision tools, updating PM checklists, and coaching a junior teammate through safe LOTO procedures. Safety stays first, paperwork is clean, and production hits the mark before 11:30 p.m.
Core responsibilities
Support production operations and lead complex maintenance work; mentor junior technicians to elevate department capability.
Use advanced and basic hand tools (e.g., gear pullers, honing/lapping tools, precision levels and alignment tools).
Operate power tools and equipment (e.g., hydraulic power jacks, belt lacing machines, mag drills).
Measure with basic to moderately advanced devices for accurate diagnostics and alignment.
Drive a forklift and safely operate lifting equipment (hoists, boom cranes, cherry pickers, scissor lifts).
Run standard shop equipment (bandsaw, hydraulic press, lathe, mill, brake/shear).
Work in confined/tight spaces while following strict safety practices.
Read and interpret mechanical schematics, wiring interconnect drawings, and service manuals.
Troubleshoot motion control, electrical/electronic circuits, and sensors at a basic level.
Apply broad facility/equipment maintenance knowledge (plumbing, electrical, construction, rigging, anchoring, cabinetry).
Provide your own standard hand tools and a secure storage solution.
Execute preventive maintenance (lubrication, adjustments/alignments, part repairs, safety and operational checks).
Diagnose and repair complex manufacturing equipment with minimal supervision.
Leverage proficiency in machining, welding, fabrication, or a related specialty trade.
Service/overhaul components such as air/hydraulic cylinders and motors, valve assemblies, pumps, motion elements, and supporting subsystems.
Rapidly prioritize outages and competing tasks while multitasking effectively.
Analyze issues and resolve them with minimal assistance; complete documentation neatly and accurately.
Lead projects/complex activities and train or mentor peers as needed.
Put safety first on every task; follow company and OSHA guidelines.
Adapt to various shifts and overtime with short notice to meet production needs.
Work efficiently with little supervision and maintain a clean, organized workspace.

Worksite: 7220 US 158, Stokesdale, NC
Shift: 2nd shift, Monday–Friday, 3:00 p.m.–11:30 p.m.
Compensation & benefits
Hourly pay range: $25.00–$27.50 plus benefits.
Base pay varies based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This information is specific to Colfax, NC and may not be applicable to other locations.

What you bring
2 years of technical training or 5+ years of related maintenance experience.
Advanced expertise in one or more areas: complex mechanical systems, electrical controls, electronics, PLC programming/troubleshooting, sensors/sensing.
Prior Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) experience.
Basic computer literacy and strong mechanical aptitude.
Clear, effective communication skills (written and verbal).
Great-to-have extras
Basic PLC coding/programming.
Experience with HVAC, compressed air, dust collection, and electrical distribution.
Physical and environmental requirements
Lift up to 50 lbs; stand, bend, stoop, sit, walk, and climb stairs.
Comfort working at heights over 30 ft, indoors or outdoors, in high heat or extreme cold/wind.
Factory environment exposure to dust, heat, and noise; tolerate heat above 95°F.
Exposure to wood dust and aluminum with no factors or hazards present to a disagreeable extent.
