Position Summary The Project Engineer assists the project manager in managing multiple projects from project initiation through project close‑out. Project Engineers work with and assist the project manager in delivering successful projects through a safe work environment, quality construction, cost management, collaboration with project stakeholders, with superior customer service. The ideal candidate will possess a desire for growth, long‑term thinking, relationship‑building skills, and a growing familiarity with the construction industry. Project Engineers are expected to collaborate with team members at all levels to establish operational priorities and to ensure a quality project. They are also expected to grow and maintain positive and effective working relationships with both internal and external members of the Project Team and internal stakeholders. It is a priority that the candidate lives near Lafayette, Indiana.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in estimating, value engineering, and develop comprehensive project budgets.
Manage and implement cost controls and cashflows.
Reconcile pay applications and billings to align with project progress.
Support and coordinate comprehensive schedule activities.
Facilitate service and vendor procurement process(es) through effective use of all technology tools, including administering and coordinating from the initial bid process to project closeout.
Document Control: maintain, prepare, and verify contract drawings, shop drawings, submittals, project database(s), reports, quality control activities & documents.
Manage the submission of record drawings, maintenance manuals, and warranties for closeout.
Manage project costs through ongoing evaluation of labor, material, and equipment; continue to forecast and analyze construction costs, through project completion.
Participate in the coordination of RFIs, change notices, and vendor materials.
Manage owner‑furnished specification, procurement, delivery & storage.
Coordinate and resolve engineering and construction problems, schedule & attend meetings, prepare and distribute minutes.
Implement cost controls and reconcile billings.
Communication liaison between the office, field, and entire project team.
Coordinate change management process.
Utilize software programs and templates to process, distribute, and track all project documentation.
Support the project Safety Program.
Provide project support to the comprehensive project management team, which includes the director, project manager, project engineer, project coordinator, and project sponsor team members.
Communicate confidentially with project team members, including, but not limited to, the Client, Architect, Engineer, General Contractor, Subcontractors, Project Managers, and Field Personnel to coordinate and communicate project needs and requirements.
Reprioritize workload when project shifts, ensuring schedule and assignments are clearly communicated to all necessary team members.
Manage multiple requests in a timely fashion and reprioritize to meet shifting deadlines.
Assist with training & development coordination and support.
Back up other coordinators in similar positions during absence and peak workload.
Play an active role in driving adherence to the project Safety Program.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, an engineering discipline, architecture, or other related field. Certificate in Healthcare is .
1–3 years of construction experience (including internships and co‑ops)
Entry‑level position meeting education requirements to 3 years of relevant healthcare project experience required.
Requires knowledge of project or construction management, business terms and contracting methodologies, and basic finance or project cost control techniques.
Requires application of regulations such as NFPA life safety code, ISDH regulations including the ADA guidelines for design and construction of healthcare facilities, LEED, International Building Code and Americans with Disabilities Act.
Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships.
Good organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Detail oriented.
Ability to work non‑traditional hours when required.
