Overview The Immunomodulation and Translational Research Program at NextGen Precision Health and the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Missouri focuses on developing novel biologics and their targeted delivery using various vehicles for immunomodulation. Our research aims to prevent and treat immune-related disorders, with a strong emphasis on type 1 diabetes and cancer immunotherapy and immunoprevention.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Scientist to join our translational research team as a Research Scientist in the field of transplantation. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research focused on islet transplantation for the treatment of Type 1 Diabetes, utilizing both rodent and humanized mouse models. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-impact research focused on improving outcomes for type 1 diabetes.

Key Responsibilities

Perform advanced microsurgical procedures, including islet isolation and transplantation in small animal models.

Design and execute experiments to evaluate graft function, immune tolerance, and rejection mechanisms.

Conduct immunological assays including immunohistochemistry, multiparameter flow cytometry, and mixed lymphocyte reactions.

Analyze and interpret complex datasets; contribute to manuscript preparation and grant proposals.

Maintain detailed records and ensure compliance with institutional and federal animal care regulations.

Train and mentor graduate students and technical staff in microsurgical and immunological techniques.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor's degree in related/relevant area and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent in a relevant biomedical field.

Demonstrated expertise in microsurgery, particularly in islet transplantation techniques.

Proficiency in rodent and/or humanized mouse models.

Hands-on experience with immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and lymphocyte functional assays.

Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and data analysis skills.

Excellent communication and organizational abilities.

Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Shift Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Compensation and Benefits Anticipated Hiring Range: Salary Range: $52,915.20 - $74,484.80 per year. Grade: GGS-010. University Title: Scientist.
