Assisting the Director of Nursing Services in the planning, organizing, developing and directing of the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, and facility policies. Operating as a CNA providing direct care to residents, the objective is to ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. Qualifications
Must have current certification as a CNA Must possess current CPR Certificate or become certified within two weeks of employment. Demonstrate interest and/or knowledge in the therapy, rehabilitation, restorative, ADL, splint, and ROM program. Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with customers, family members, visitors, personnel, government agencies/personnel, and the general public. Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and willingness to work harmoniously with personnel. Must be personable, enthusiastic, and resourceful. Physical Requirements
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with customers, family members, personnel, and support agencies. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability. Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people. Must be able to lift, push, pull and move equipment, supplies, and customers in excess of 50 pounds throughout the day. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses. Essential Functions
Under supervision of a clinical leader, performs essential nursing duties and assists in coordinating nursing services. Review the department's Policy & Procedure Manual, Job Descriptions, cleaning schedules, etc., at least annually and make recommendations to the Director of Nursing. Collaborates with CNAs to ensure compliance with established departmental policies and procedures, including appropriate dress code. Assist in developing a written plan of care for each customer that identifies the problems/needs of the customer. Attend and actively participate in customer care plan conferences when indicated. Resolve and process concern resolutions for customer or family complaints with the Administrator. Under supervision of a clinical leader, meet with the CNA team regularly to identify and correct problem areas and improve services. Recruit and conduct preliminary interviews and make recommendations for hiring to the clinical leadership and Administrator. Final interviews and approval are completed by the clinical leadership or Administrator. Provide orientation, coaching and mentoring to ensure the success of CNAs; make recommendations for counseling to the clinical leadership. Provide feedback to clinical leadership regarding CNA performance evaluations. Make daily rounds to ensure nursing personnel are performing required duties and that procedures are followed; conduct daily rounds of all customers and participate with physicians as necessary. Maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and calm throughout the department. Plan, conduct and participate in in-service education programs. Assist in implementing and maintaining an orientation program for new CNAs. Attend and participate in continuing education programs. Recommend equipment and supply needs of the department; place orders as needed following budgetary guidelines and assist with distribution of supplies. Assist in coordinating nursing services with other departments to ensure continuity of care. Monitor and perform administrative duties such as completing forms, reports, studies, charting, etc. Monitor absenteeism to ensure adequate staffing; report problem areas to the Director. Assist and maintain general organization of nursing units. Provide information to the Director of Nursing regarding nursing needs and the department’s ability to meet them. Assist with arranging appointments and transportation as needed. Assist support services in developing, implementing, and conducting in-service training programs related to nursing services. Ensure that all personnel involved in care are aware of the care plan and that care plans are used in daily care. Attend department head meetings, Infection Control meetings, Quality Improvement meetings, etc., as directed. Maintain daily oversight of POC documentation compliance.
