Overview Construction Inspector - Tret III, IV at GAI Consultants, Inc. The position is for a transportation Construction Technician with WV Transportation Engineering Technician (TRET) level 3 or 4 to support highway/bridge projects across West Virginia, primarily WVDOH District 4 in Harrison County. A sign-on bonus may be available.

Responsibilities

Verify that contractor work is in accordance with plans and contractual specifications.

Perform calculations for contractor payment.

Read construction plans and documents.

Maintain good communication with project team, contractors, and clients.

Write daily technical reports.

General Characteristics

Develop advanced field operations skills; possess computer skills; good visual and hearing abilities; follow procedures; strong organizational skills.

Work in weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, etc.); maintain safety-first mindset.

Flexible with work hours and willing to travel up to 100% during weekdays and occasional weekends; capable of physically demanding work; ability to lift and carry between 25 and 50 lbs; able to walk for lengthy periods.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: 6+ years; demonstrated ability to verify contractor work against plans and specifications.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Licenses & Certifications: Driver’s License.

Technical Responsibilities

Review plans and specifications in preparation for field observations on construction sites.

Conduct tests and investigations in the field or laboratory to obtain data used by engineering and technical personnel in determining physical properties of construction materials.

Collect soil, asphalt and concrete samples, prepare samples for testing, record data, and prepare summary reports.

Document field activities, observations, and testing results on projects.

Perform laboratory and field tests according to prescribed procedures, processes, and standards.

Use specialized equipment to prepare analyses, reports and/or technical drawings.

Communicate field and laboratory testing results with staff, contractors, and clients.

Project and Management

May lead projects and tasks.

Work independently or lead crews when necessary.

Communication

Possesses effective oral and written communication skills; interacts well with staff; communicates effectively with clients and field representatives; able to motivate others and function positively in a team environment; promotes harmonious team work.
