About the Employer Coachella Valley Unified School District covers more than 1,200 square miles of mostly rural desert terrain, serving the communities of Coachella, Thermal, Mecca, Oasis, Indio, and the Salton Sea. The district currently operates fourteen elementary schools, three middle schools, three comprehensive high schools, one continuation high school, and one adult school. The district has a large Latino and English Learner population that has made tremendous improvements in student achievement in the past few years. Job Summary General Description of Position Goals: Under general supervision, to perform skilled master level locksmith work in the maintenance, alteration, repair, and the occasional new construction of equipment and structures. The distinction of this class from the classification of Maintenance II is that the work assigned the incumbent to perform is one the master level in the locksmith trade.

Responsibilities

Performs skilled work in the installation and maintenance and repair of general lock and hardware systems.

Installs and adjusts door closers, hinges, and emergency exit bar hardware.

Installs or replaces deadbolt lock systems.

Repair and replace locks on file cabinets, lockers, desks and other furniture.

Make duplicate and/or new keys.

Rekey buildings and entire school sites.

Replace or repin lock cylinders.

Establish and maintain key systems from grand master through individual room systems.

Maintain manual and electronic files and/or records (e.g. secure and confidential information, audits, and keys issued, etc.)

Monitor distribution of keys (e.g. Great Grand Master, Grand Master, personnel, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining maximum security, emergency, and specific use only.

Work on combination-types safe locks.

Care for tools and equipment.

Order materials as needed and keep accurate inventory of materials on hand.

Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate concerns.

Prepares written documents (i.e. work orders including time materials, cost, plans, etc.) for the purpose of conveying information and meeting district, local, state and federal requirements.

Education and Experience Required

Education: High School Diploma or the equivalent.

Experience: Minimum ten (10) years of experience performing locksmith work.

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing

TB Test Clearance

Possess a valid California Class C driver’s license.

Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance

Successfully Pass District Assessment

Successful completion of pre-employment medical certification
