Location: Columbia, South Carolina. Responsibilities
Performs daily inspections on residential and commercial construction projects and other assignments as directed. Works under the direction of the Region''s Business Unit Manager. Performs scheduled assignments between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm, Monday – Friday. Completes daily duties responsibly and safely with respect to private and personal property. Readily communicates with staff, citizens, teammates, and builder/contractors as necessary. Maintains detailed records and reports of all inspections and compliance cases. Assists client staff and team members whenever necessary. Updates files, answers phone calls, and schedules inspections as necessary. Maintains ICC certifications and professional credentials. Secures additional ICC certifications, attends training opportunities, and consistently studies codes and standards as related to work requirements. Qualifications
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Supplemental training in building inspection, structural engineering, or a related field is preferred. An Associate''s Degree in engineering, architecture, building inspection, or related field, or equivalent ICC certification level is a plus. Experience: Minimum 3 years’ experience as a building construction inspector is required. Must have a valid South Carolina driver''s license. Certifications: ICC Commercial Inspector (required); ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector (preferred); ICC Commercial Electrical Inspector (preferred). Required Knowledge, Abilities & Skills:
Strong knowledge of building and related municipal codes, inspection methods and techniques, and construction materials; excellent written and oral communication; ability to operate laptops, tablets, and Microsoft Word/Excel; ability to follow directions and ask clarifying questions; professional appearance and conduct; self-discipline and ability to work without direct supervision; team-oriented and solution-driven problem solving. Compensation & Benefits
The starting wage range for this role commences at $70,000 per year up to $75,000 per year, with potential increases based on experience, education, licenses, or certifications.
