Burns & McDonnell The Staff Mechanical Engineer will work on project teams in Oak Ridge, TN to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of equipment and infrastructure projects that will primarily support the local DOE complexes (e.g., ORNL and Y-12). Other projects may include municipal, power, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, and military facilities. Key responsibilities include: Perform mechanical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion. Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects. Design mechanical components for project needs and requirements. Apply strong knowledge of commonly used mechanical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures. Research and compile project-related data as required. Update drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections. Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration. Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients. All other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program. Or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering may be substituted for 1 year of experience. 3 years of mechanical engineering experience, consulting preferred. Successful completion (i.e., passing) FE or EIT preferred. Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills. Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite). Strong computer skills include AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D Rendering Programs, hydraulic analysis, and HVAC analysis programs. Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills. EEO/Disabled/Veterans
