About Us Upstate Shredding, Weitsman Recycling is a leader in the recycling and scrap metal industry, headquartered in Owego, New York, with facilities across the Northeast. We are seeking a motivated Entry Level Diesel Technician to join our team at our Owego facility, working on semi trucks and other diesel equipment to keep our fleet running smoothly.
Job Overview Weitsman Recycling is hiring an Entry Level Diesel Technician to perform maintenance and repairs on our fleet of diesel powered semi trucks and heavy equipment. This is a hands on role perfect for someone eager to grow their skills in a fast paced, industrial environment. You will focus on routine tasks like tire maintenance, mud flap repair, and light system checks, with opportunities to learn from experienced technicians. Responsibilities
Conduct routine inspections of diesel semi trucks and equipment, checking tires, lights, and other components for safety and compliance.
Perform tire maintenance tasks, including checking tire pressure, rotating tires, and assisting with tire replacements.
Inspect, repair, and replace mud flaps to ensure road safety and vehicle protection.
Check and repair vehicle lights, ensuring proper function for safe operation.
Assist with basic maintenance tasks like oil changes, fluid checks, and greasing fittings on diesel equipment.
Use diagnostic tools to identify issues and report findings to senior technicians.
Maintain a clean and organized workspace, following all safety protocols.
Document maintenance and repair tasks accurately in shop logs.
Qualifications
Basic knowledge of diesel engines or mechanical systems (vocational training or personal experience is a plus).
Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, or diagnostic equipment.
Experience with tire maintenance, mud flap repair, or vehicle light repairs is preferred but not required.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a fast paced shop environment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety standards.
Valid driver’s license preferred for moving or test driving vehicles.
