Lead Commercial Building Maintenance Engineer
Our client is a privately held real estate investment and management firm founded in 1969 that specializes in the acquisition, development, and management of multifamily and commercial properties across the United States and internationally. The company oversees billions in assets and is known for its long‑term investment approach and in‑house property management capabilities.
Salary $94,000–$105,000 (negotiable based on experience)

Job Summary The Lead Building Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of all building infrastructure systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership abilities, and a commitment to maintaining efficient, safe, and compliant building operations. The position is based at a premier commercial property primarily working a 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM shift, with flexibility for on‑call coverage and emergency response.
Job Responsibilities
Lead and supervise building engineering and maintenance staff to ensure high performance and adherence to safety standards.
Operate, maintain, and repair HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
Conduct preventive maintenance, inspections, and necessary repairs to building equipment.
Oversee work performed by contractors to ensure quality, compliance, and safety.
Maintain documentation of system performance, maintenance activities, and work orders.
Support energy efficiency and preventative maintenance initiatives.
Respond to emergencies on a rotating on‑call basis and provide direction during off‑hours incidents.
Maintain life/safety and security systems, ensuring operational readiness.
Train and mentor junior engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance and oversight.
Qualifications
Associate’s degree, completed apprenticeship, or equivalent experience in building systems engineering.
Minimum 5 years of commercial building maintenance experience, including 2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex building system issues.
Familiarity with local and federal safety and regulatory requirements.
Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Physical capability to perform maintenance duties (lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, etc.).
Valid driver’s license required.
Preferred Certifications
Universal CFC/HVAC Certification 4th Class Engineer (or higher)
Boiler Fireman Grade IV (or higher)
DC 3rd Class Engineer License (preferred)
Electrical Trainee, 07 Electrical License, or equivalent
