General Description Under the direction of the Regional Maintenance Specialist, this position performs advanced (senior-level) construction, restoration, renovation, and maintenance work.
The Specialist provides assistance to Region 2 State Parks by conducting complex work in several skilled construction trades such as carpentry, roofing, concrete, masonry, electrical, plumbing, and welding.
The role involves performing difficult and critical phases/tasks involved in the repair and construction of buildings, utility systems, and other facilities.
The Specialist is responsible for material specification, estimation, and material/labor cost estimation.
They supervise and train other individuals performing work in a specific trade, assist with special park-based projects, and support special events and natural disaster responses throughout the state.
The Specialist also assists in facility management of all Region 2 sites, performs facility inspections and safety audits, works under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment, and performs additional duties as assigned in compliance with all agency rules, regulations, and procedures.
Responsibilities
Perform advanced construction, restoration, renovation, and maintenance work in multiple skilled trades.
Conduct complex work in carpentry, roofing, concrete, masonry, electrical, plumbing, and welding.
Repair and construct buildings, utility systems, and other facilities.
Specify and estimate materials and labor costs.
Supervise and train trade-specific workers.
Assist with special park-based projects and special events.
Respond to natural disasters throughout the state.
Assist in facility management, inspections, and safety audits.
Work independently with minimal supervision.
Perform additional duties as required by agency policy.
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED.
Four years of experience in building and equipment maintenance such as carpentry, roofing, masonry, painting, electrical, plumbing, or welding.
Valid Texas Commercial driver’s license (Class A and/or Class C). Must obtain a Class A license within 12 months of employment if currently holding a Class C license.
Pass the air brake component of a Class A commercial driver’s license examination.
Maintain all required licenses and comply with DOT drug and alcohol testing.
Preferred Qualifications
Training related to designated building trades or areas of expertise.
Experience in construction, maintenance, and repair work.
Certification associated with designated building trade training.
Current valid Class A commercial Texas driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of conventional and historic building techniques, materials, equipment, and tools.
Knowledge of advanced plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, mechanical maintenance, and repair tasks.
Knowledge of OSHA and state safety regulations.
Knowledge of state purchasing procedures and regulations.
Basic mathematics skills.
Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Equipment and electronic maintenance skills.
Skill in selecting appropriate tools and equipment and troubleshooting situations.
