$66,951.00/yr - $94,121.00/yr Duties Description

Duties include but may be limited to: Assist in performing geotechnical engineering duties including determining soil and field material, ground seepage, and detailed soil mechanics. Collect and analyze data on bedrock, foundations, and aquifer systems to inform subsurface construction plans. Investigate subsurface conditions, determine engineering properties of materials, and apply findings to design decisions and recommendations. Prepare geotechnical drawings and details, specifications, estimates, and/or studies for design projects under the direction of licensed staff. Coordinate design drawings and related specifications, construction costs estimates, etc., with the other disciplines. Assist in scheduling assigned projects according to workload, priorities, and design schedules. Assist in the review of reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates prepared by design consultants. Assist with the supervision of consultant design work. Develop and maintain project documentation, including records of meetings, correspondence, and progress. Collaborate with senior designers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure project goals are met. Assist in review and coordination of submittals, contractor Requests for Informations, Information Bulletins, and other construction administration and observation tasks during the project’s construction. Assist with supervision of junior staff. Additional duties as assigned. Operational Needs

Travel may be required (approximately 20%). Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver’s License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required. Location: This position will be located in Albany or Pearl River. Please indicate your preferred location when applying. Minimum Qualifications

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS) and applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this position: Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND a qualifying bachelor’s degree or higher, OR proof of passing the NCEES FE Examination (FE) AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience. Qualifying degrees: Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Engineering Technology, Environmental Design Engineering, Environmental Resources Engineering, Environmental Systems Engineering, Forest Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees. Qualifying experience: One year of full-time experience related to geotechnical engineering practices. OR Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade 16 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. NOTE: IN ORDER TO AWARD THE PROPER CREDIT FOR WORK EXPERIENCE, RESUMES MUST INCLUDE MONTH AND YEAR FOR START AND END DATES. IF ANY OF THIS EXPERIENCE IS LESS THAN FULL TIME YOU MUST INDICATE THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF HOURS WORKED PER WEEK. This position is graded and offers a salary range from the hiring rate to the job rate for its designated grade. All hires begin at “Start Rate” unless prior state experience affords eligibility for hiring step increase as determined by OSC. Salary Adjustments for Positions at the Assistant level (not trainee) in Albany: Geographic pay differential added to hiring salary of $74,193 = $7,000. Salary Adjustments for Positions at the Assistant level (not trainee) in Pearl River: Geographic pay differential added to hiring salary of $74,193 = $13,500. Increased Hiring Salary added to hiring salary of $74,193 = $9,980. Salary Adjustments for Positions at all levels in Pearl River: Downstate Adjustment added to hiring salary for Assistant and Trainee levels = $4,000. Seniority level
