Mercer provides a turn-key approach that includes planning, design, construction, and installation as well as service, monitoring, and maintenance. A Petroleum Construction Foreman at R.W. Mercer is responsible for ensuring projects are completed in accordance with specifications. They are able to properly utilize work crews, equipment, and subcontractors on a job site to achieve maximum production in the most effective manner per plans and specifications. REQUIREMENTS Specialized in the installation and construction of AST / UST fueling systems. Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor. Perform manual work in preparing surfaces. Excavate and fill trenches. Maintain a clean job site; pick up all tools & equipment and secure job site each day to eliminate potential hazards. Material handling and storage. Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Bring problems to the attention of the foreman, safety director, or HR manager. Able to prioritize assigned tasks, handle multiple tasks, and work in a fast-paced environment. Detail-oriented and set high standards for accuracy. Cuts, threads, and tapers pipe to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting, and pipe threaders and benders. Leads by example. Maintain professionalism at all times and ensure crew is professional as well. Confidently possess an in-depth understanding of construction procedures, practices, and principles is a must for labor foreman. Possess the ability to recognize and correct the errors of the employees. RESPONSIBILITIES Trenching and pipe and/or conduit laying. Layout, trenching, installation of water / fuel piping. Managing Weekly Inventory with Laborers. Manage all on-site construction activities, including Subcontractor Management, workload completion, and communication with Project Manager on any issues or concerns. Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground levels. Communicate all discrepancies for materials, delivery tickets, and receipt of materials. Assist with basic and minor callbacks. Manufacturer Certified to handle, install, and test underground and above ground piping and fueling. Ability to comprehend blueprints and perform basic calculations to give direction and check accuracy of work. Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment according to specification, by welding, brazing, gluing, soldering, and threading joints. Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipelines using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods. Responsible for all aspects of site safety, including conducting safety meetings, working with PM and Field Operations Manager to ensure safety by subcontractor crews. Effectively communicate with customers and subcontractor representatives on site. Organize, supervise, lead, and train colleagues to complete projects within established guidelines and time frames. Plan reading and executing to ensure the project is complete per manufacturer and engineering specifications. Review job schedule and cost breakdown with Salesman, PM, and Field Operations Manager prior to job start. Complete daily progress reports and maintain communication with Project Managers and Field Operations Manager to ensure the customer’s expectations are being exceeded. Work together with PM and communicate schedule materials, equipment, and subcontractors as required. Work with Field Operations Manager to maintain control over tools and equipment as required. Schedule all inspections. Work with laborers, train laborers, and ensure safety compliance. Complete daily field reports, legible and to the point for construction activities, submission to PM regularly. Take periodic photos to document job progress or areas of concern. Complete punch list prior to leaving the site. Return all unused material to inventory (warehouse). JOB QUALIFICATIONS Must be 18 years old or older and possess High School Diploma, GED, or equivalency. 5-10 years petroleum construction industry experience. Must possess a valid Driver's license/ CDL-A required with airbrake endorsement and a clean driving record. Ability to operate equipment. People with a strong mechanical background, leadership ability, and a desire to organize a team with many moving pieces will succeed as labor foreman. Excellent written and oral communication skills with crew, superiors, and subcontractors. Foremen are on their feet for eight (8) hours per day while performing a variety of tasks, climbing up and down ladders on a daily basis, as well as carrying materials up to 100 pounds. Physical Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a construction environment; walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and twist; push, pull, lift, and/or carry moderate to heavy amounts of weight; operate assigned equipment and vehicles; and verbally communicate to exchange information. Digging and working in trenches. Working in confined spaces, from heights, and in hot/cold weather conditions. Vision / Hearing See in the normal vision range with or without correction.
