Overview

Location : Idaho Falls, ID (Amentum Office) Project Site : INL SFHP – Approx. 55 miles from Idaho Falls Travel : Occasional travel required to job site The Civil Engineer will be responsible for managing the ongoing progress of project tasks and resolving complex engineering and field challenges, including conflicting design requirements and constructability issues. The position will begin at the Amentum Idaho Falls office and transition to onsite support at the INL SFHP job site as project needs evolve. The ideal candidate will possess strong problem-solving skills, coordination experience across multiple disciplines, and the ability to deliver high-quality civil design and field support within an active construction environment.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the technical progress and execution of assigned civil engineering tasks.

Resolve complex engineering issues such as conflicting design requirements and constructability challenges.

Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including process, structural, architectural, and electrical engineers, to produce fully integrated facility designs.

Dispositioning Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).

Perform design assessments and constructability reviews.

Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs).

Prepare and issue Design Change Notices (DCNs).

Coordinate with the Quality Assurance team on inspections and compliance verification.

Support Procurement and Construction groups in developing Scopes of Work (SOWs) for civil and electrical subcontracts.

Conduct field assessments, site surveys, and master planning for existing facilities.

Develop and review design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and calculation analyses.

Assist with cost estimating, scope development, and engineering effort forecasting.

Provide construction-phase engineering support, including RFIs and contractor inquiries, reviewing bids and shop drawings, site visits and commissioning support, and hosting progress meetings.

Support project closeout activities.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.

Minimum 2 years of civil design experience related to civil infrastructure projects.

Proficiency in site layout, grading and drainage design, and utility coordination.

Experience with construction management and services during construction activities.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility for licensure preferred.

Experience supporting DOE, federal, or industrial facility projects.

Familiarity with NQA-1 quality assurance standards.

Strong understanding of civil and site design codes, including applicable state and federal regulations.

Proven ability to coordinate across disciplines and resolve field and design issues efficiently.

Additional Requirements

Must be a U.S. Citizen (dual citizenship not permitted).

Ability to obtain and maintain a basic security clearance.

Willingness to travel occasionally (~55 miles) to the INL SFHP job site for field coordination and construction interface.
