Job Description
CMTS LLC is hiring a construction inspector located in Los Angeles, CA. The role focuses on inspecting runway and taxiway construction activities on active airport facilities within California, ensuring compliance with FAA specifications and safety standards.
Education
High School Diploma
30‑hour Cal-OSHA training prior to assignment
Required Qualifications
5+ years experience performing inspection of large‑scale public works, preferably airline construction inspection on active airport facilities, with expertise in runway and taxiway construction projects.
Extensive knowledge and verifiable field experience with FAA specifications: P-501 (Portland Cement Concrete Pavement), P-401 (Plant Mix Bituminous Pavements), P-201 (Aggregate Base Course), and P-306 (Lean Concrete Base).
Proven experience with FAA active airfield operational protocols, including FOD controls, runway/taxiway opening and closing procedures, radio communication protocols, and multi‑agency coordination in live operational environments.
Comprehensive knowledge of FAA airfield lighting systems, pavement marking standards, signage requirements, and FAA Part 139 Airport Certification regulations as demonstrated through verifiable project experience.
Current Cal/OSHA 30‑hour certification card required, with demonstrated knowledge of FAA Part 139, Cal/OSHA, Fed OSHA, and LAWA safety standards as applied to airfield construction environments.
Proficiency in technical report writing with the ability to produce detailed inspection reports incorporating mapping, photographic/video documentation, quantity calculations, and survey data interpretation.
Demonstrated experience with quality control testing protocols and material compliance verification procedures for airfield construction, including proficiency in interpreting technical specifications and ensuring adherence to FAA standards.
Responsibilities
Perform inspection of runway and taxiway construction activities, ensuring compliance with FAA P‑501 concrete paving operations and other equipment practices.
Conduct comprehensive inspections of FAA P‑401 asphalt placement and compaction activities, including air‑void testing and surface defect repair.
Inspect installation and testing of FAA P‑201 base material and P‑306 lean concrete base systems, including earthwork operations and erosion control compliance.
Apply extensive knowledge of FAA airfield work rules and protocols, including barricades, fencing, lighting, signage, pavement markings, and facility‑maintenance requirements.
Ensure compliance with FOD controls and active airfield protocols, including dust control and sweeping procedures.
Inspect FAA airfield lighting systems, ensuring proper circuitry and regulator functionality throughout installation phases.
Coordinate opening and closing of active runways and taxiways using proper radio protocol and multi‑group coordination procedures.
Prepare detailed daily inspection reports with mapping, video/photo documentation, and accurate quantity tracking.
Perform batch plant inspections for both concrete and asphalt materials, interpreting underground utility plans and survey data.
Apply knowledge of project sustainability requirements and enforce LAWA’s mandatory MRP requirements while remaining available for all shifts, including nights and weekends.
Salary $142,000.00 – $149,000.00 annually
Bonus Pay A bonus may be granted to employees depending on performance, utilization, attendance, tenure, and corporate goals; bonus opportunities are at management discretion.
