This position is essential and requires reporting to duty before, during, and immediately after a civil emergency.
Responsibilities include:
Proper operation and maintenance of water treatment facilities.
Developing public trust in the City's Utility.
Shift work, scheduled/unscheduled overtime, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and immediate response to emergencies.
Starting hourly rates:
Plant Operator C: $25.31
Plant Operator B: $26.58
Plant Operator A: $27.91
The duties are illustrative and other related duties may be assigned. Essential duties include:
Maintaining the mission, vision, and values of the City and Utility Systems Department.
Operating and maintaining advanced treatment facilities with automatic control and telemetry systems.
Operating pumps and mechanical controls to maintain proper treatment and pressures.
Routine checks and recording of meter readings, charts, and water quality tests.
Performing well checks, flushing, and taking water samples.
Maintaining records, preparing reports for regulatory agencies, and performing general housekeeping.
Monitoring remote pump stations and interconnects, performing scheduled operational duties.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of water treatment, distribution, and supply operations.
Understanding of bacteriology principles.
Ability to follow instructions, read meters, and maintain records.
Positive attitude, respectfulness, and ability to build trust.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent, with courses in biology and chemistry.
Experience requirements vary by class: A (5 years), B (3 years), C (1 year).
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Class A, B, or C Water Treatment Plant Operator's License from the State of Florida.
Valid Florida driver's license with a good record.
Physical requirements include working in confined spaces, lifting up to 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally, working outdoors in various weather conditions, and working in a noisy environment.
