Payroll and Compliance Specialist Location: Tempe, AZ | In-Office

Client: Confidential | Construction Industry

Our client, a leading construction and steel fabrication company, is seeking a Payroll & HR Coordinator to support operations across two affiliated businesses. This hands‑on, detail‑oriented role is designed for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and is eager to grow skills in payroll, compliance, and HR administration.

This position works closely with the CFO, providing support on payroll, benefits administration, employee onboarding/off‑boarding, and various compliance reporting functions. You’ll play a key part in ensuring smooth day‑to‑day operations across both companies.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll & Benefits

Process weekly payrolls for both the General Contracting & Steel Fabrication company

Manage employee onboarding and terminations

Administer 401(k) contributions and ensure accurate recordkeeping

Oversee group insurance enrollments, changes, and terminations

Coordinate open enrollment and employee communications

Maintain accurate employee records and ensure confidentiality

Compliance & Reporting

Assist with weekly, quarterly, and annual payroll reporting

Help prepare documentation for audits and insurance renewals

Maintain all corporate licensing for both companies, including:

State, County, and City-level business licenses

Contractor licenses and renewals

Annual reports and compliance filings

Withholding and unemployment account maintenance

Administrative Support

Maintain organized and secure employee files for both companies

Support employee‑related activities and communications

Provide assistance with various administrative and accounting tasks as needed

Preferred Qualifications

3+ years of experience in payroll, HR, or accounting support

Experience in the construction industry preferred

Knowledge of multi‑state payroll and benefits administration a plus

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality

Eagerness to learn and grow into broader accounting and HR responsibilities
