Maintenance Technician II – Veolia North America

Position Purpose Inspects, maintains, repairs, and installs mechanical, electromechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment at plant and/or pump stations.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Inspects and performs mechanical, electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic troubleshooting to determine repairs needed. Estimates time and material costs for assigned projects. Dismantles equipment to gain access to and repairs defective parts using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring and testing devices. Re‑assembles and tests equipment to ensure a safe and efficient operating condition.
Inspects flow meters, gauges, flow ratios, pressures and related controls on instrument panels, computer terminals and programmable logic control units and diagnoses basic operational problems. Takes corrective action per procedure in the assigned area. Verifies and reports suspected malfunctions and variances to supervisor.
Performs routine and preventative maintenance, lubrication and minor adjustments on machines and related equipment, which may include pumps, engines, centrifuges, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, dryers, chemical feed and odor control, disinfection equipment, vacuum filters and belt presses. Reports any operational problems promptly to lead or supervisor.
Makes fabrications, welds, threads pipe and solder using gas and electric equipment as needed.
Performs routine instrument calibration for portable meters including dissolved oxygen, pH, H₂S, percent oxygen and lower explosive limit.
Conducts facility maintenance and repair, and may replace or install damaged glass, windows, doors, partitions, ceiling or floor tile, door locks, carpet, and/or paint.
Performs manual labor including cleaning equipment, facilities and grounds as required and properly disposes of waste according to safety and environmental policies. Operates vehicles for plant operational purposes.
Assists with maintaining parts, spares and maintenance inventory.
Assists in other areas of the plant as directed.
Assists with orienting or training new or less experienced maintenance personnel.
Work Environment
Spends 100% of the time in an operations environment.
Typically spends 25 – 35% of time exposed to outdoor and inclement weather.
Company service vehicles are used as required.
Travels 1 – 2 times per year for company‑provided training.
May serve rotational 24‑hour emergency on‑call.
Possible work hazards include fumes, dust, toxic and caustic chemicals, noise, rotating machinery, high pressure and hot and cold temperatures, slippery surfaces, water and electrical hazards.
Qualifications
High school or GED with the ability to read, write, and comprehend English safety and quality instructions.
Two to five years of experience in a related position in a similar environment, with the ability to comprehend complex specifications, blueprints and manuals.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Basic mathematical calculations. Some vocational training and mechanical aptitude required, with the ability to read, interpret and record data from meters, gauges, scales, panels, computer consoles and other equipment.
Proficiency in the use of PPE including respirators, gas detectors, confined space equipment, etc.
Consistently demonstrates the ability to perform all assigned tasks accurately and timely.
Ability to efficiently maintain, install and repair a variety of equipment, including pumps, engines, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, chemical feed and odor control, disinfection equipment, vacuum filters and belt presses.
Ability to use precision measuring devices, testing equipment and shop tools such as drill press, band saw, bench grinder, and torque wrench.
Ability to inspect and diagnose process problems in multiple unit processes, troubleshoot mechanical, electro‑mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic equipment and take corrective action within policy and procedure limitations.
Ability to estimate time and material costs for assigned projects.
Steel fabrication and welding experience may be required.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to operate Computer Maintenance Management System software.
Team‑work orientation and willingness to assume additional responsibilities.
Required Certifications, Licenses & Training
Minimum water/wastewater license as required by regulatory site.
Valid driver’s license (commercial license desired) and safe driving record.
Employee orientation, departmental operating procedures, safety, OSHA and quality training.
HAZWOPER Level I and II First Responder Certification.
Work toward higher level water/wastewater treatment certification.
Training in operation of mechanical drives, hydraulic pumps and valves, pneumatics, electronics and control systems.
Obtain or maintain HVAC, electrician, plumber’s or other trade license if assigned to that area.
Forklift Certification if required by site.
Physical Requirements
Standing 25 % and walking 75 % of a shift; may walk up to 5 miles per shift.
Requires close visual and hearing observation for non‑conformance detection.
Frequent use of hands and arms, including ladder work and operations up to 50 ft.
Must lift and carry up to 50 lbs (occasionally 60 lbs) over a 10‑ft distance.
Occasional stooping, bending or kneeling and confined space entry.
Additional Information Pay Range:
$55.00 to $60.00 per hour.
