The Renaissance Power Plant, located in Carson City, Michigan, approximately 50 miles north of Lansing, is a high-performance natural gas-fired facility. Operating in simple cycle mode, the plant features four Siemens Westinghouse 501FD2 combustion turbines designed for efficiency and reliability. With a nominal generating capacity of 660 megawatts, it provides a critical source of dependable power to the region. The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Technician at Renaissance Power in Carson City, Michigan, will operate and maintain four Siemens Westinghouse 501FD2 combustion turbines in simple cycle mode to support safe and reliable generation of 660 MW for the regional power grid. This role involves monitoring, inspecting, troubleshooting, and performing routine maintenance on turbines and auxiliary equipment while ensuring compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements. The position provides hands-on experience in diagnostics, emergency response, and operational excellence, contributing directly to the plant’s high-performance operations and energy reliability. Responsibilities

Use facility operating procedures and equipment manuals to start, operate, modify, and shut down the four Siemens Westinghouse 501FD2 combustion turbines and auxiliary equipment, ensuring all systems function within recommended operating ranges. Conduct routine operating tests, visual inspections, minor adjustments, diagnostics, and lubrication on turbines and auxiliary equipment, using technical drawings, procedures, and manuals, to maintain the high-performance standards expected at Renaissance Power’s simple cycle facility. Read meters, gauges, or monitor automatic devices to record data such as equipment operating temperatures, vibration, operating hours, pressure, and fluid levels to verify operating conditions and support the plant’s reliable 660 MW power output for the region. Report abnormal conditions promptly, take corrective actions, and follow procedures for emergency shutdowns, turbine trips, and rapid restarts in accordance with plant safety protocols. Assist in troubleshooting turbine controls, auxiliary systems, and PLC-based automation systems, including monitoring sensors and alarms, and support maintenance teams during planned outages or corrective maintenance to minimize downtime. Maintain accurate operating logs and CMMS records, documenting operational activities, equipment status, abnormalities, maintenance actions, and parts usage. Read, understand, and comply with all environmental, regulatory, safety, and hazardous materials policies, and participate in emergency response, waste minimization, and pollution prevention programs. Keep all training requirements current, including initial orientation, annual classroom training, First Aid, CPR, and OSHA, and participate in available training modules, seminars, and courses offered by NAES. Initiate Purchase Order requests for parts and services as needed. Ensure the plant meets generating requirements, operating safely and efficiently while providing reliable power to support the regional electrical grid. Fulfills other tasks as assigned by the Plant Manager, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of plant operations. Safety and Working Environment

Core Qualifications and Skills

We are looking for a skilled technician with power generation operations and maintenance experience and a proven ability to contribute to team success and consistently meet performance standards. Ability to understand procedures, instructions, and technical manuals related to plant operations. An Associate degree in power plant technology, chemistry, or a related technical field, or engineering is preferred. Alternatively, high school or college coursework in chemistry is preferred. Relevant industry or military experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. Storm Water Certified Operator Certification is a plus. Proven experience in technician roles within power generation, with hands-on experience operating and maintaining combustion turbines and auxiliary systems in a simple cycle environment. Experience in inspections, diagnostics, troubleshooting, minor mechanical adjustments, lubrication, and alignment of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems, and working with control systems and PLC-based automation. Knowledge of gas turbine operations, turbine instrumentation, electrical systems, piping and instrument schematics, process controls, and plant parameter monitoring. Ability to interpret and troubleshoot technical documentation, including blueprints, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals, while documenting operational activities and regulatory compliance. Understanding of safety protocols, environmental regulations, LOTO, OSHA, and hazardous materials handling. Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, maintenance personnel, contractors, and vendors to support planned outages and maintenance. Strong problem-solving skills and technical writing, communication, and mathematical aptitude to convey operational and maintenance concepts clearly. Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and maintain it in good standing. Licenses & Certifications

Required: Driver's License Work Schedule

The O&M Technician works a rotating 12-hour shift schedule, typically 7 days on and 7 days off, alternating between day and night shifts to support continuous 24/7 operations. Schedules may be adjusted based on dispatch requirements and occasional extended hours, weekends, holidays, and on-call status may be required. Compensation
