Head Coach, US Boys' Wrestling

Harvest Bible Chapel Summary: The head coach is responsible for helping athletes reach their maximum potential to glorify the Lord with the talents they have been given. To promote excellence in athletics as a platform for discipling students and bringing glory to Jesus Christ. Create a community with the team that exemplifies what it means to be a follower of Christ, work together to achieve a common goal, and promote all athletic programs. Develop and maintain strong relationships with the coaching staff, parents, student-athletes, donors, colleagues, and the greater community.
Scope of Role
Running 1-2 fundraisers to ensure the team has funds available for urgent needs Overseeing 1-3 assistant coaches (depending on sport) Overseeing multiple volunteers (depending on sport)
Essential Roles & Responsibilities
Utilizing sports as a great training ground for sharing life lessons and providing vision and direction in this area. Overseeing the development of the players on their teams across all levels, as well as the assistant coaches on their staff. Diligent guidance and growth of all team members toward a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. Promote a spiritual and emotional environment that encourages discipleship and spiritual growth of students. Aid in helping Student-Athletes grow in their walk with Jesus. Promote and encourage students to participate in the sports season. Pursue best practices within the sport, creating and executing efficient practice plans. Create an environment that is inviting and promotes students' return the following season. Conduct in partnership with administration, one-on-one exit meetings with players at the end of the season. Tracking and reporting on the team’s progress by analyzing past performances, recent successes, and areas for improvement. Be available to receive input and concerns from parents and the HCA community and immediately act on responsive items in the best interest of HCA. Assist staff and school in helping answer questions regarding faith in Jesus Christ from Student-Athletes. Maintain regular communication with parents through the HCA app, and other appropriate means regarding practices and game schedule. Develop and establish quality partnerships with outside Travel Clubs. Collaborate with the administration to enforce student discipline per handbook(s), athletic code, and biblically and encourage the team to maintain strong academics, in line with the student-athlete philosophy. Inspect facilities and equipment for cleanliness, safety, and upkeep for practices and games, and coordinate with administration any issues. Promote HCA to current and prospective students, parents, and the overall community. Work with the administration on eligibility and holding athletes to a high standard. Partner with administration to hold parent meetings at the start of each season. Coordinate with administration end-of-the-year athletic meetings, celebrations, and awards. Collaborate with administration and Booster Club on fundraiser and donor development needs and plans, producing at least one fundraising opportunity each season.

Ability to explain “What Harvest Bible Chapel Believes.” Ability to pray with other employees, guests, and attendees of the church. Be active, engaged, and accountable in a biblically based church. Facilitate the school’s culture that promotes the values of the school mission statement. Maintain and encourage Christ-like care for all elements of the school community. Integrates biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout instruction.
Skills / Knowledge Required
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor and develop assistant coaches / students. Team player able to balance spiritual elements, academic requirements, and athletic commitments in a Christian school. Strong communication, specifically in listening and clear communication both verbal and written. Ability to listen with empathy and endure scrutiny from parents. Passion for athletics and demonstrating what positive sportsmanship means. Strong leadership and organizational abilities. Demonstrate high integrity and honesty in all interactions. Ability to set vision and inspiration in students and assistant coaches. Ability to provide effective feedback and hold assistant coaches accountable. Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills. Ability to influence and build relationships.
Education And Experience
Bachelor’s Degree, preferred Minimum 19 years of age (according to IHSA requirements) Three or more years of coaching experience required Complete and maintain IHSA / IESA coaching requirements
