Position Summary This is a Full‑Time, 40 Hours Weekly position with the Department of Public Safety. For more information on Public Safety, please visit https://dps.sd.gov/. The Department of Public Safety is hiring a Program Assistant II for the South Dakota Victim Services Program (SDVS). SDVS offers grant funding to subgrantees, primarily non‑profit and government organizations that provide direct services to crime victims. Additionally, SDVS oversees the Crime Victim Compensation Program (CVC), which helps individual victims of violent crimes by covering expenses related to their injuries.

Key Responsibilities

regular in‑state travel;

develop and implement quality assurance based on federal and state regulations;

develop and provide training and technical assistance;

participate in ongoing trauma‑informed, and victim/survivor centered training to ensure best practices;

complete on‑site quality assurance reviews of programmatic and financial aspects;

review, approve/deny reimbursement requests and process approved expenses ensuring proper documentation;

participate in stakeholder workgroups on service delivery to victims of violent crimes;

work with partner agencies to obtain required documentation and ensure efficient delivery of services;

other duties as assigned.

Proactive thinking and efficient planning are essential for managing tasks and meeting deadlines.

Knowledge

technology, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing software;

project management and preparation of complicated documents.

apply and interpret policies, regulations, and laws;

review and analyze documents from various fields, including victim services, law enforcement, courts, funeral homes, human resources, and medical providers, then provide well‑reasoned recommendations;

analyze data, solve problems, and implement effective solutions;

excellent customer service and interpersonal skills to interact with courtesy, respect, and professionalism;

develop and deliver training for diverse audiences and stakeholders;

create and update forms, and processes to ensure compliance with current laws, guidelines and best practices;

communicate effectively with staff, agency officials, outside agency representatives, and the general public.

analyze and interpret program outcomes, providing recommendations for improvements and implementing changes;

strengthen existing relationships and build new connections with stakeholders, community organizations, and partner agencies;

accurately interpret state law, administrative rules, federal laws, federal regulations, and grant requirements;

work independently to prioritize tasks, anticipate needs and problems, and make independent decisions to solve them;

relate well and work cooperatively with others under pressure;

learn new tasks and gain knowledge quickly and accurately.

This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
