Overview

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Staff Nurse (RN) for the Lower Level Short Stay Unit (LL JCP). The unit is part of UI Health Care's Medical Surgical Services (MSS) Division. Lower Level features 30 private patient rooms and cares for patients admitted under observation or recovery level of care with a focus on timely treatment. The patient population includes medical and surgical patients typically admitted for an estimated 24–48 hour stay, with diagnoses such as chest pain, abdominal pain, back pain, and syncope treated as medical observation; surgical recovery includes procedures under orthopedics, urology, plastics, and cardiology, among others. The unit emphasizes teamwork to provide high quality and compassionate care and to educate patients for a safe transition home after a short stay. Responsibilities

Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness. Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations. Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings. Develops patient care plans based on patient condition, age, and psychosocial factors to attain expected outcomes. Implements patient care plans according to patient priorities and documents interventions and patient/family responses. Collaborates with patients and families as part of the multidisciplinary care plan. Develops, coordinates, and implements transfer and discharge planning. Implements nursing interventions per department, division, and unit policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment; follows universal precautions. Qualifications

Education Required An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required. Experience Required Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and the interdisciplinary team. General computer skills, including proficiency with multiple databases such as Microsoft Excel. Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire. Desirable Qualifications Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is highly desired. If a BSN is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable. Salary: $61,183 minimum at 100% effort, commensurate with years of experience and percent of effort (this does not include differentials). Pay plan: SEIU Pay Plan is available; pay differentials apply for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Inpatient differential of $10,000 per year based on percent time. Benefits include a fringe benefit package with paid vacation, sick leave, health, dental, life, and disability insurance options, and employer contributions to retirement plans.
