Weekends: Yes University of Michigan Health-West is looking for a dynamic individual to join our Laboratory team. The ideal candidate will have completed at least 150 blood draws after completing a phlebotomy training course. This position is essential to our team, ensuring proper collection of samples for patient diagnosis and monitoring. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong follow-through, excellent customer service, and the ability to build rapport quickly with patients and staff. General Summary: Obtains accession, prepares, and distributes laboratory specimens for testing. Performs a limited number of point-of-care tests. Requirements: High School Diploma required; 1-2 years of college (pre-med or pre-med tech) preferred. Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant training/experience preferred. Certification is preferred after one year of experience with ASCP, ASPT, NCA, or AMT. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Perform venipuncture using appropriate techniques on inpatients and outpatients. Collect non-blood specimens (stool, urinalysis, sputum, etc.) as needed. Obtain blood culture specimens following proper procedures. Obtain newborn screening specimens on the back of the card as required. Follow patient identification policies strictly. Monitor barcode and accession printers regularly, ensuring correct labeling and matching of specimens to orders. Perform other duties as assigned. Category: Health Care
