Overview
The Midtown Community Justice Center, part of the Center for Justice Innovation, seeks a Bilingual Case Manager for the Intake team. The Midtown Center provides alternatives to fines and jail for low-level crime, engages in ongoing community outreach, and connects people in need to voluntary services. The Center for Justice Innovation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing community safety and racial justice. Since 1996, we’ve worked alongside communities, courts, and those most directly affected by the justice system to build stronger, healthier, and more equitable neighborhoods. With a team of over 900 staff and an annual budget of $130 million, the Center carries out its mission through three core strategies: operating programs, conducting original research, and providing expert assistance and policy guidance to reformers nationwide. Launched in 1993, the Midtown Community Justice Center is one of the country’s first problem-solving courts. It provides alternatives to fines and jail as a response to low-level crime. The court seeks to reduce crime and incarceration and increase public trust in justice by working with neighborhood stakeholders to improve Midtown Manhattan and to serve the Midtown community, specifically those in need of services. The court responds creatively to low-level offending, with restorative outcomes for victims, defendants, and the community. Midtown staff engage in ongoing community engagement events to promote wellness and connect people to voluntary services. The Case Manager will coordinate new referrals, conduct intakes and screenings, reengage former and existing participants to complete mandated services, orient new participants to the Midtown Community Justice Center, and schedule participants for services. The Case Manager will also provide one-on-one case management support and deliver regular written updates and compliance reports to the court, including to the judge, clerks, defense attorneys, and prosecutors. Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive needs-based intakes and assessments for clients referred to Midtown Community Justice Center and from other Center project sites Schedule participants for mandated social services and/or community engagement sessions Maintain caseload of participants and support completion of court mandates, including coordination with outside providers Provide case management and referrals for social services (harm reduction/substance use, mental health, housing, employment, benefits, and more) Maintain up-to-date referral resource lists across programs and services Enter and maintain accurate data in the electronic case management database (outreach, intakes, attendances, outcomes) Provide written updates for court stakeholders and coordinate resources in the courtroom as needed Collaborate with prosecutors, defense attorneys, and other staff; build strong stakeholder relationships Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed Manage front desk administrative tasks and greet guests as needed Participate in group supervision, staff meetings, site visits, and trainings Foster a respectful, inclusive, and anti-racist work environment Assist with other programmatic and administrative tasks to support Midtown Community Court Ensure continuity of services for participants across programs Attend occasional evening and weekend community meetings Additional tasks as necessary Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 3-4 years of experience in a social service setting Fluent in English and Spanish, with proficiency in both written and verbal communication Experience in a court or criminal justice setting strongly preferred Experience with drug/alcohol treatment, harm reduction, mental health services, co-occurring disorders; trauma-informed and anti-oppressive practice required Ability to work effectively with diverse client populations as part of a multiracial team Highly organized with excellent time management skills Excellent writing skills and attention to detail Commitment to holistic, strengths-based approaches and culturally responsive practices Knowledge of community-based resources throughout New York City Position Details
