The RDP is based out of an LA County courthouse. The clinician screens defendants for program suitability, formulates treatment plans, and provides ongoing clinical recommendations and expertise to the team. This position reports to the RDP Program Supervisor and coordinates with external stakeholders and the courthouse case management team. The role requires collaboration in a fast-paced environment with diverse stakeholders to achieve client diversion and success. The clinician may cover screenings at other courthouse locations as needed. Essential Functions

Assess potential RDP participants and make diversion recommendations to the court Engage potential diversion participants in services; provide brief motivational intervention and information related to RDP services Review collateral information and conduct clinical interviews; assessment includes mental health diagnosis, readiness for change, and needed community linkages Formulate a diagnosis, comprehensive treatment plan, and recommendations to court for potential diversion Maintain up-to-date knowledge of behavioral health treatment resources; establish and maintain relationships with community treatment providers Engage collaterals (family, court) as appropriate; provide education on mental health recovery; engage in client advocacy Conduct reassessments as requested and adjust treatment recommendations as needed Deliver services in alignment with ethical standards within a harm-reduction, strength-based, trauma-informed framework Coordination and Collaboration

Build and maintain strong working relationships with RDP court staff, including judges, judicial assistants, and attorneys Track court dates and submit high-quality diversion reports per program guidelines Coordinate with Resource Navigators and Case Management to support client treatment and ensure understanding of diversion responsibilities Collaborate with public and private community health, mental health, and social service agencies Documentation and Reporting

Maintain comprehensive case notes in the electronic health record per program guidelines Participate in program data collection; licensed clinicians provide clinical risk assessment and crisis intervention as applicable Maintain LA County LPS designation and participate in 24-hour crisis line rotation as required Baseline Staff Expectations

Regular attendance; holiday or weekend work may be required Uphold agency mission, values, policies, procedures, and principles Perform other duties as needed Maintain active license and/or registrations (e.g., BBS) Licensed clinicians only: participate in the Division’s 24-hour crisis line on a rotating basis (with pay differential), maintain LA County LPS designation, and conduct clinical risk assessments as appropriate Skills and Abilities

Clinical expertise in diagnostic assessment, treatment planning, motivational interviewing, and clinical recommendations within recovery-oriented, trauma-informed framework Strong communication skills with diverse stakeholders Relationship-building with clients, families, court partners, and service providers Cultural competence and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds Resourcefulness in navigating LA County system of care Collaborative, proactive, adaptable, with strong critical thinking and problem-solving Organized and detail-oriented; professional boundaries and ethics Technologically proficient with electronic health records and tracking tools Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in social work or mental health field from an accredited college or university, and valid license (LCSW, LMFT, LPCC) or registration (ASW/ACSW, AMFT, APCC) with licensing body (e.g., BBS) At least 1 year of clinical experience (biopsychosocial assessments, diagnosing, treatment planning, clinical interventions) Experience with culturally diverse populations Valid CA driver’s license, proof of insurance, and own vehicle; ability to transport clients as needed Must not be on any type of legal supervision (probation or parole) Ability to pass background check and verification of employment eligibility Basic computer skills Preferred Lived experience with homelessness, mental health/substance use recovery, or criminal legal system Experience with forensic and/or dual-diagnosed populations Experience on an interdisciplinary team in mental health or hospital setting Knowledge of trauma-informed services Spanish-speaking Environmental, Physical, and Mental Requirements
