Mercy Hospital’s 9M Cardiac Stepdown Unit primarily cares for patients coming from the Cardiovascular Surgical Care Unit (CVSCU). This 32‑bed unit is currently a high‑acuity medical/surgical and cardiac stepdown unit, with plans to transition exclusively into a dedicated cardiac stepdown unit. It provides care for post‑cardiac cath lab patients, as well as those with chest tubes, PleurX catheters, and complex wounds. As an RN Resident on this unit, you will assist fellow caregivers in delivering exceptional care, from initial introduction to final send‑off. In this role, you will interact directly with patients, families and visitors, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and supply healthcare information as needed.

Shift Schedule A caregiver in this position works a day/night rotation from 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. with rotating weekend and holiday requirements.

Responsibilities

Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.

Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.

Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability).

Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk.

Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.

Document in patients’ medical records.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN program).

Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.

New grad RN or less than one year of RN work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Physical Requirements

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination.

Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal range.

Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.

Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

Medium Work – moving objects requiring 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds constantly.

Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.

Pay Range Minimum hourly: $33.50 Maximum hourly: $53.60
