Job Summary Works in a dynamic, collaborative, accredited congenital pediatric echo lab, using advanced ultrasound equipment. Performs echocardiograms on the pediatric and congenital heart disease population for both inpatient and outpatient care. Ensures detailed findings are written on preliminary reports, data is accurately entered, and critical findings are reported in a timely manner.

Job Description As a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and one of the busiest trauma centers in the country, Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital provides twenty‑four hour, in‑house and on‑call coverage for patients with intensive care needs. The Cardiac Sonographer collaborates with pediatric critical care medicine physicians, hospitalists, and cardiologists to deliver the highest quality care.

Key responsibilities include:

Scan in-house patients (NICU, PICU), CVOR, Pedi Cath Labs, and travel to seven outpatient clinics.

Use state‑of‑the‑art machines (Philips IE 33, GE, etc.) for complex congenital heart disease.

Prepare and examine all pediatric congenital patients, verify identity, obtain health status and medical history, and ensure patient cooperation.

Confirm that the ultrasound examination correlates with clinical history and presentation; inform physicians of any contraindications.

Demonstrate proficiency in various echocardiogram modalities.

Analyze patient records, perform measurements, and compile preliminary reports for cardiologist review.

Provide oral summary of findings to the cardiologist.

Assist with pre/post procedures and preliminary image review.

Onboard new sonographers and provide in‑service education.

Maintain equipment through quality assurance, routine cleaning, preventive maintenance, and reporting malfunctions.

Attend staff meetings, echo lab QI, patient care conferences, and continue professional development.

Participate in call schedules and performance improvement activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Education : Graduate of an accredited school of Cardiac Sonography Technology, Radiologic Technology, or Sonography Technology (preferred).

Licenses/Certifications :

Certified in Basic or Advanced Life Support (required).

One of the following (required):

Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) – Cardiovascular Credentialing International

Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) – Cardiovascular Credentialing International

Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) – American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers

For those with RCS or RDCS Advanced Education, must obtain RCCS or RDCS Post‑Education within 18 months of employment.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills : No prior experience required.
