Overview The Medical Technologist (MT) works under the direction of the supervisor/manager or the Director of the Laboratory. The MT performs technical procedures in areas such as Hematology, Chemistry, Serology, Blood Bank, Point of Care Testing, Urinalysis and Microbiology according to established protocols and standard operating procedures. Responsibilities include following quality control and quality assurance guidelines, performing routine equipment maintenance, inventory control, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting, participating in all aspects of proficiency testing, and maintaining readiness for accreditation from CAP, DNV, State, OSHA, AABB, CLIA, and other accrediting agencies. The MT assists in training new and existing personnel as well as students, and acts as lead technologist in the absence of a supervisor. The role adheres to hospital and departmental policies, maintains a professional demeanor, exhibits a positive attitude, may perform specimen collection and processing, and follows safety guidelines and protective equipment use.
What You Will Do
Perform technical procedures in areas such as Hematology, Chemistry, Serology, Blood Bank, Point of Care Testing, Urinalysis and Microbiology while facilitating positive customer service.
Recognize, respond to, and communicate collaboratively with physicians regarding laboratory variances and patient data, building professional relationships with a multi‑disciplinary team.
Follow all quality control and quality assurance guidelines, and conduct routine maintenance of departmental equipment, inventory control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Complete accurate testing to ensure quality patient care across pre‑analytic, analytic and post‑analytic phases.
Assist in staff and student training.
Comply with laboratory QA/QI programs, perform preventive maintenance, quality controls and troubleshoot equipment per standard operating procedures, and ensure department meets accreditation standards from CAP, DNV and other agencies.
Comply with RHS policies, procedures and regulatory requirements that support national patient safety goals and quality initiatives; report variances and provide resolutions while using appropriate protective equipment and safety guidelines.
Qualifications Education
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Lab Technology, Clinical Lab Science, or related field (Required)
Experience
2 years of clinical laboratory experience (Preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
Medical Technologist (MT) – ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) Clinical Laboratory Scientist / Medical Technologist (ASCP or AMT) upon hire (Required)
