Overview

Dental Hygienist position at MONTSHIRE PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY, PC. The Dental Hygienist is the chief preventive care provider of the Practice, motivating, educating, and providing excellent treatment. The Hygienist removes hard and soft deposits from teeth, examines oral areas, head, and neck for signs of oral disease, educates patients on oral hygiene, provides preventative dental care, takes and develops X-rays, and applies fluoride or sealants. By discovering and documenting areas of concern, the Hygienist facilitates the dentist’s diagnosis and treatment recommendations. The Hygienist should establish an excellent rapport with patients to ensure satisfaction and referrals.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities

Maintain a current dental hygiene license (including x-ray certification). Complete required continuing education to maintain hygiene license. Be a team player with a positive attitude; represent the practice professionally and cooperatively. Maintain regular, consistent, and punctual attendance in accordance with schedule and policies. Work independently and in team settings; manage multiple deadlines and tasks with strong time management. Maintain professionalism around all patients and environments. Maintain CPR certification and Hep B vaccinations; adhere to HIPAA confidentiality standards. Welcome and seat patients on time or as soon as possible if delays occur; prepare and set up treatment rooms for hygiene procedures. Review and update patient health history; chart progress, treatments, and home care compliance; complete treatment notes timely. Clean calculus deposits, accretions, and stains using dental instruments, including scaling and root planing for periodontal disease; apply fluorides and caries-preventing agents. Assess and evaluate patients to assist in diagnosis of hygiene-related problems and treatment plans; obtain dental diagnostic radiographs; examine gums for signs of gum disease and communicate findings to patient and doctor. Develop and present treatment plans; educate and motivate patients on proper oral hygiene and preventive measures. Work chair-side with the Dentist as needed; assist in hygiene examinations; schedule care appointments and ensure family appointments. Assist in sterilization; maintain hygiene handpieces and instruments; adhere to OSHA and office safety standards. CPHDH certification is an expectation at hire or must be obtained within the defined timeline; CPHDH certification is preferred in some cases; other duties as assigned. Experience and Education

Associate’s degree from an ADA-accredited dental hygiene program; current State License; CPR Certification; preferred one year of dental experience. Preferred Certification in Anesthesia. Preferred Certification in nitrous; CPHDH Certification. Requirements

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

Standing 50% and sitting 50% of the time. Moderate noise levels from dental and other equipment. Medical office and laboratory setting. Minimum lifting requirements of 35 pounds; frequent bending, twisting, and position changes. Exceptional hand-eye coordination, finger dexterity, and near-vision abilities for dental procedures. Arm-hand steadiness and manual dexterity for using dental tools; ability to communicate effectively and interact with patients and staff.
