Responsibilities
Assists patients and other departments with billing inquiries in a professional, courteous, timely, efficient and knowledgeable fashion utilizing online technology and other communication methods.
Collects, deposits, and establishes payment arrangements for co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay accounts per department policies and procedures.
Posts payments received and provides receipts.
Reconciles Patient Access Department cash drawers as needed.
Provide billing copies and other related documentation upon request to patients, authorized third parties and departments in accordance with hospital credit and collection policy.
Assists with Patient Access work lists.
Respond to patient and/or insurer inquiries in a professional, timely, efficient and knowledgeable fashion, ensuring HIPAA and CCH guidelines are followed.
Calculate patient liability, including estimates, and perform system adjustments to support accurate patient statement billing.
Works with data in MS Office applications including but not limited to Excel and pivot table creation and maintenance.
Clearly explains the hospital poss credit and collection policies and billing practices to a diverse population.
Performs other work related duties as assigned or requested by supervisor/manager.
Must have excellent customer service and communication skills. Demonstrates sensitivity to patient concerns regarding inability to meet financial responsibilities.
Qualifications
Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
One-year experience in medical registration, billing or collection position.
PC skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook, with a minimum of 6 months experience working with hospital information system on a daily basis.
Keyboarding skills at 30 WPM as demonstrated by successful passage of a timed test.
Successful passage of basic Medical Terminology course OR successful passage of the CCH Medical Terminology exam.
