Diagnoses and treats speech, language, social communication, cognitive communication, and swallowing disorders in children and adults. Engages in the scientific study of human communication. Evaluates speech and language skills as related to educational, medical, social, and psychological factors. Plans, directs, or conducts rehabilitative treatment programs to restore communicative efficiency of individuals with communication problems of organic and nonorganic etiology. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Essential Functions

Provides initial evaluation and determines a plan of care, including performing Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) evaluations in conjunction with Radiology, and effectively communicating the results.

Participates in quality assurance, maintains productivity measures, and utilizes modalities and equipment properly.

Provides instruction through demonstrations, written, and verbal communication.

Provides feedback and follow-up to physicians, participates in discharge planning.

Assists patients in achieving their goals, maximizing performance and functioning.

Collaborates with other therapy staff and disciplines to facilitate optimal outcomes.

Communicates effectively with patients, families, physicians, and students regarding the Plan of Care.

Assists with marketing and promotion of the Therapy clinic and facility.

Demonstrates compliance with ethical roles and obligations as per the American Speech and Hearing Association and state practice acts.

Performs other duties as assigned, ensuring compliance with policies and standards.

Qualifications

Master's Degree or equivalent from an accredited speech-language pathology program.

1-2 years of experience or familiarity with practices within this field preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate effectively in English.

Basic computer skills.

Ability to apply common sense and problem-solving skills in standardized situations.

Mathematical skills including basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Licenses and Certifications

Basic Life Support (BCLS) required.

Current license as a Speech Language Pathologist; RPSGT or CRTT acceptable; or completing clinical fellowship verifiable online.
