Composite Finishing Technician
Compensation/Rate:
$25.00/ hour
Position Overview We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Boat Plug & Composite Finishing Technician to assist with plug preparation, sanding, fairing, and surface finishing for new yacht molds. This role is ideal for someone with a background in bodywork, marine composites, or fiberglass fabrication who takes pride in achieving smooth, high-quality surfaces ready for tooling and lamination.
Responsibilities
Sand, fair, and finish boat plugs and molds to a high standard of surface quality
Assist with composite layup, mold preparation, and basic lamination tasks
Mix and apply fairing compounds, resins, and gelcoats as needed
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop and work area
Collaborate with the build team to ensure precision and craftsmanship in all phases of plug and mold development
Qualifications
Experience with sanding, fairing, or bodywork (marine, automotive, or aerospace industries)
Understanding of composite materials, resins, and finishing techniques
Strong attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship
Ability to work independently and as part of a small, collaborative team
Comfortable using hand tools, sanders, and other finishing equipment
Preferred but Not Required
Prior experience in a marine or boatbuilding environment
Familiarity with plug-to-mold processes and composite tooling methods
