ARNOLD PALMER HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN, Orlando Health
– Imaging Service, Echo/Vascular Sonographer III. Located on the downtown Orlando Health campus, Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children provides pediatric specialty care across Central Florida. The Pediatric Echocardiology Sonographer performs high-quality echocardiographic studies on neonates, infants, children, and adolescents, including those with complex congenital heart disease. This role requires proficiency in both pediatric and adult echocardiography; vascular experience is not required.
The sonographer works collaboratively with pediatric and adult congenital cardiologists, nursing staff, and other health care professionals to ensure accurate diagnostic imaging and exceptional care.
Shift:
First / FT – Monday to Friday. No Call – No weekend – No Holidays.
Responsibilities Essential Functions
Acts as sonography section leader and represents ultrasonography to the Imaging Services Manager when considering equipment choices, technical issues, or personnel issues.
Works closely with Radiologist, Perinatologist and/or Cardiologist to perform diagnostic sonographic exams.
Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to quality care.
Delivers appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures.
Complies with all state and federal regulations applicable to each modality.
Adheres to Orlando Health mission statements and commitment to excellence standards.
Assesses the patient’s physical condition and age-specific needs; provides instructions that achieve patient cooperation and desired results.
Performs proper patient identification, acquires patient’s clinical history, and ensures information is accurately documented.
Positions patient and equipment; adjusts technical factors to achieve high-quality images for interpretation.
Assesses diagnostic images for technical quality, annotation, and patient identification, ensuring all relative anatomy is demonstrated.
Complies with Quality Control standards and participates in all Quality Control tasks.
Provides emergency medical aid as required.
Assists in supervision of student sonographers and training of new sonographers.
Applies standard precautions and PPE to prevent cross-contamination.
Utilizes corporate Radiology computer systems effectively and accurately.
Ensures safety of all customers.
Directs and assists with daily workflow of the imaging team, including patient flow, supply ordering, staff assignments, and resolution of customer service issues.
Plans and prioritizes exam scheduling and processing to support patient and physician needs.
Participates in departmental projects and process improvement initiatives.
Assists manager in maintaining quality images, documentation, and charge management through the Quality Control Program.
Orients and precepts staff; maintains regular attendance per Orlando Health policies and applicable regulations.
Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
Follows established standards of practice for image processing and interpretation.
Maintains cleanliness and organization of work areas and equipment.
May be required to work at any facility.
Qualifications Education/Training Associate degree in applied science and graduate of an accredited school of sonography. Must meet ARDMS eligibility guidelines and/or CCI guidelines.
Licensure/Certification • RDMS or RDCS per ARDMS; OR RCS per CCI; AND
• Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certificate.
• For Maternal Fetal Medicine Sonography – ARDMS physics registry and ARDMS OBGYN registry required.
• NTQR certifications: CLEAR, Nuchal Translucency, Nasal Bone (preferred for Maternal Fetal Medicine); for Pediatric Congenital Sonography, RDCS and/or RCS and/or RDMS.
Experience
At least two (2) years of experience as Pediatric Sonographer
Experience in Maternal Fetal Medicine sonography (routine ultrasound procedures including invasive procedures such as amniocentesis, Chorionic Villus Sampling, Doppler, 3D/4D) and pediatric cardiac sonography; or experience in Pediatric Congenital sonography with routine, advanced, and fetal echocardiology exams (2-D and M-Mode, Color Flow, Spectral Doppler).
