Job Description The Radiologic Tech performs all radiographic examinations according to established protocols set forth by the medical director. Maintains a high degree of accuracy in radiographic positioning and exposure technique. Maintains knowledge and awareness of radiation protection and safety during all radiographic examinations. Prepares for and assists the radiologist with intricate radiographic examinations. Prepares for and administers contrast media in accordance with hospital policy and procedures as well as state and federal regulations.
Essential Functions
Uses consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information pertinent to the examination, including correct patient identification and order verification.
Assess patient to determine and develop an action plan for completing the procedure.
Performs pre and post exam patient education pertinent to exam being performed.
Produces images according to established protocols within the Diagnostic Imaging Department, at patients’ bedside, ER, and surgery with a high degree of accuracy.
Demonstrates good radiation safety practices during radiographic examinations, including use of lead shields, collimation, and determining pregnancy status of women of childbearing years.
Prepares for and assists Physicians with intricate radiographic examinations.
Ensures examinations are performed, completed, and ready for physician interpretation.
Attends and participates in department staff meetings and in-services.
Takes an active role in gaining and maintaining proficiency in hospital and radiology equipment and information systems needed for performance of job responsibilities.
Instructs Radiologic Technology students in radiographic positioning, technique, and film critique.
Presents a positive image of the hospital and department.
Assists in quality improvement programs in the department.
Maintains appropriate credentials and certifications related to clinical performance and ensures a current copy is on file with the appropriate department.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education / Accreditation / Licensure
Graduate of JRC approved program in Radiologic Technology
ARRT Registered
KY Radiation Operator certification (KBMIRT)
BLS
Experience
One (1) year of experience as a general radiographer preferred but not required.
