Trauma Registrar – Berkshire Health Systems
The Trauma Registrar assists the Trauma Program Manager and Medical (Director - Trauma) in a variety of injury prevention and program development projects. The role is responsible for assisting in preparation for and participation in the Trauma Center Designation Verification process, as well as the timely upload of data for state and TQIP quarterly submissions.
Responsibilities
Data acquisition, storage and reporting for the Trauma Service.
Perform medical record analysis to determine inaccurate or insufficient information in record keeping.
Abstract and code pertinent data elements for computer entry and statistical analysis.
Extract data sets for performance improvement processing and data reports.
Provide guidance for new developments in the Trauma Program.
Assist in the development and implementation of Trauma Prevention Programs.
Position Qualifications
Experience:
One year experience in a healthcare related field.
Two years computer experience and familiarity with Trauma Registry Databases, Microsoft Word, Meditech and Excel.
Data registry experience preferred.
Experience with data registry programs strongly preferred.
Education and Training:
High School Diploma or GED required. Associate’s Degree desired. BS in a health-related field preferred.
Formal training in a health profession such as medical records technician preferred.
Proficient in medical terminology and Anatomy and Physiology.
Continuing education of 8 hours per year or 24 hours over three years in the trauma registry required per the American College of Surgeons COT.
Attendance and completion of a Trauma Registry Course required or completed within 1 year of hire per requirement of the American College of Surgeons COT.
Attendance and completion of AAAM AIS Course within 1 year of hire per requirement the American College of Surgeons COT.
Participation and completion of an ICD-10 course within 1 year of hire; refresher course every 5 years per requirement the American College of Surgeons COT.
License, Certification & Registration:
CSTR - Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries preferred, and will be required within 3 years of hire.
CAISS - Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist within 3 years of hire per requirement of The American College of Surgeons COT.
Other Requirements:
Demonstrated ability to collect, manage, display, and analyze data.
Organizational skills and ability to prioritize duties and requests while maintaining flexibility.
Basic knowledge of statistics.
Interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
Ability to interact with physicians, pre-hospital personnel, and other health care professionals.
Ability to adjust work schedule to complete assignments within set timeframes.
Knowledge of policies and procedures applicable.
