Overview

The Division of Disease Control's mission is to safeguard the health of New Yorkers through identification, surveillance, treatment, control, and prevention of infectious diseases. The NYC Bureau of Tuberculosis Control (BTBC) aims to prevent the spread of tuberculosis (TB) and eliminate it as a public health problem in NYC. The Bureau is seeking a City Medical Specialist. They will report to the Director of Medical Affairs and will see patients in TB clinics, perform medical consultation, participate in case management and contact investigation teams. Responsibilities

Perform histories and physicals, evaluate laboratory and microbiologic data and x-rays and other radiological studies to determine if a patient needs treatment for tuberculosis. Supervise or formulate medical treatments and interventions, including complex regimens for patients with drug resistant and multidrug resistant TB. Monitor and ensure patient compliance during treatment. Participate in the implementation of patient care protocols for the care and treatment of latent TB infection or active TB disease in the BTBC chest centers. Becoming an integral member of the case management team, performing systematic reviews of patient case and contact investigation. Participate in contact investigation and evaluating clients for disease or preventive therapy. Act as a consultant to community doctors and other healthcare providers in all aspects of tuberculosis. Attend conferences, symposiums, seminars, and meetings as appropriate. Write standard and special reports as assigned. Participate in agency-wide emergency response activities. Qualifications

Proficient in Microsoft Office. Must be licensed to practice medicine in New York State. Valid Board certification in pulmonary or infectious disease with specialty in internal medicine or pediatrics or family practice medicine. For Assignment Level II: one year of satisfactory experience in the specialty area, in addition to the minimum qualifications. For Assignment Level III: possession of a valid NYS medical license; a Master’s degree in Public Health (or equivalent with epidemiology/biostatistics coursework); and at least two years of post-master’s experience in epidemiology; board certification or eligibility may substitute for one year of this experience. For Assignment Level IV: possession of a valid NYS medical license; completion of an approved residency in internal medicine, family practice, pediatrics, or related field; board certification or board eligibility in Infectious Disease, Pulmonary Medicine, or related subspecialty; completion of an approved fellowship with two years of related experience. Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York; and either: Valid Board Certification issued by the appropriate American Specialty Board in any specialty area required by the agency; or Current approved application on file for admission to the certifying examination given by the appropriate American Specialty Board in any specialty area required by the agency. To be assigned to Assignment Level II, individuals must have one year of satisfactory experience practicing in the specialty area in addition to the minimum qualification requirements for Assignment Level I described above. To be assigned to Assignment Level III, individuals must possess: a valid NYS medical license; a Master’s degree in Public Health or equivalent (including epidemiology/biostatistics coursework); completion of the Epidemic Intelligence Service program may substitute for the Master's degree; and at least two years of post-master’s in epidemiology; specialty board certification or eligibility may substitute for one year of this experience. To be assigned to Assignment Level IV, individuals must possess: a valid NYS medical license; completion of an approved residency in internal medicine, family practice, pediatrics, or related field; valid board certification or board eligibility in Infectious Disease, Pulmonary Medicine, or related subspecialty; completion of an approved fellowship with two years of experience in infectious diseases, pulmonary medicine, or related subspecialty.
