Position Details
Title: Research Technician – Philpot
Department: Cell Biology and Physiology, School of Medicine, UNC Chapel Hill
Location: North Carolina, US
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Hours: 40 per week
Type: Full‑Time Temporary (6–11 months)
Pay Range: $17.00 – $20.00 per hour
Position Summary The Philpot laboratory develops therapeutics for single‑gene disorders. A research technician will perform research tasks and assist with lab management. Tasks include mouse behavioral experiments, colony organization and breeding, histological assays (e.g., immunocytochemistry), confocal microscopy, tissue collection and processing (dissections, sectioning), and data analysis. This position requires animal handling.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Required Qualifications
Rodent handling abilities
Basic understanding of neuroscience
Preferred Qualifications
Prior laboratory experience in a related field
Rodent behavior experience
Microscopy
Immunohistochemistry
Genotyping
Strong communication and organization skills
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Must be able to stand up to 6 hours/day
Must be able to move up to 50 pounds
Must be able to climb a step ladder
