Job Summary Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Clinician is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and identifying the appropriate level of patient care through comprehensive assessments such as the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) assessment and Initial Triage Assessments (ITA). The Clinician also participates in treatment plan development.

Major Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities

Conduct culturally competent assessments, identify diagnoses, and develop treatment plans within required timeframes.

Provide guidance, consultation, and approval of assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, and progress notes.

Maintain detailed client records, including progress notes and treatment reviews.

Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team, providing clinical input on diagnoses and treatment plans, and consult on client cases and medication issues.

Demonstrate knowledge in substance abuse and co-occurring disorder treatments, and be sensitive to cultural differences.

Manage a caseload, conducting individual/group sessions, including family education groups.

Meet productivity goals set by the agency.

Make and monitor appropriate referrals when necessary.

Support staff and intern orientation and training.

Participate in quality improvement and peer review activities.

Collaborate with community agencies, schools, parents, and other services to evaluate and advocate for community health needs.

Present to community groups and outside organizations as needed.

Clinician Competencies and Performance Expectations

Assess, re-assess, and diagnose clients accurately, developing suitable treatment plans.

Analyze crisis situations promptly to facilitate appropriate treatment and referrals.

Prepare detailed case summaries and maintain accurate documentation in compliance with regulations.

Provide staff education, consultation, and training.

Protect client rights and advocate for clients.

Establish effective working relationships with colleagues, referral sources, and community partners.

Prerequisite Qualifications Master’s degree in a related field, licensed as MFT or MSW (BBS registered). Valid California driver’s license and liability insurance required when using a personal vehicle for work.

Knowledge Requirements

Community behavioral treatment principles and practices, including assessments and counseling.

Psychiatric emergency interventions, diagnosis, and therapy methods.

Principles of psychology across age groups.

Relevant laws and regulations, including Title 22, 42CFR, and clients’ rights.

Community resources supporting mental health and co-occurring disorders.

Medical recordkeeping and documentation, including MediCal regulations.

Additional Qualifications

California Driver’s License

Personal vehicle with liability insurance for reimbursable mileage

First Aid and CPR certifications (must be obtained within 90 days of employment and maintained)

Computer skills adequate for job duties within 90 days

Bi-cultural and bilingual abilities (if applicable)

Experience with specific populations (if applicable)
