Lilly recently announced a $4.5 billion investment to create the Lilly Medicine Foundry, a new center for advanced manufacturing and drug development. The Industrial Hygienist is responsible for the implementation of industrial hygiene programs at the Lilly Medicine Foundry (LMF), supporting the design of a best-in-class pharmaceutical manufacturing facility and developing technical IH capabilities at the Foundry. They possess deep technical knowledge of Industrial Hygiene as it applies to pharmaceutical manufacturing, understand current best practices in exposure assessment and controls, and ensure compliance with internal and external requirements. The Sr Principal – Industrial Hygiene works cross-functionally to meet operational excellence goals, mentors technical staff in other functions, and fosters a culture of caring, transparency, and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities
Work with design teams, Lilly engineers, and other SMEs to design and deliver a best-in-class pharmaceutical manufacturing facility following the hierarchy of controls. Develop all LMF Industrial Hygiene programs and lead cross-functional teams in implementing IH programs. Provide technical IH expertise for new product introductions, changes, nonroutine/troubleshooting activities, and shutdown/start-up activities. Advise on priorities and the development of the LMF HSE plan. Monitor the external regulatory environment through engagement with the Lilly IH community. Host regulatory inspectors and internal auditors and lead/support self-assessments. Advise management and senior technical staff on industrial hygiene practices, following the hierarchy of controls. Provide expert interpretation of regulations, corporate standards, policies, and industry guidance. Develop the skills and expertise of Operators, Engineering, Maintenance, Chemists, Leaders, and other staff to ensure effective and compliant implementation of IH programs. Promote a speak-up culture that empowers employees and contractors to stop work. Develop and oversee exposure monitoring plans and risk assessment processes. Execute exposure monitoring studies and communicate results to employees. Support the investigation of events and develop robust and sustainable corrective and preventive actions. Develop & deliver high-quality training and communications. Drive implementation of site process safety initiatives. Complete site performance metric reviews and analyses. Basic Requirements
Bachelor degree in Industrial Hygiene or related Science with a minimum of 5+ years as Industrial Hygienist, preferably in pharmaceutical manufacturing. Preferences
Master’s degree in Industrial Hygiene Certification in Industrial Hygiene Keen technical curiosity and a desire for continuous improvement Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in execution Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a cross-functional team Demonstrated ability to participate in, influence and facilitate decision-making, and lead cross-functional teams Other Information
