Goodwill SWMI is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Our nearly 300 dedicated team members help achieve our mission of improving the community by providing employment, education, training and support services tailored to individual needs across a six county territory. At Goodwill SWMI, the work we do makes a difference in the lives of the individuals we serve and, in turn, in the communities in which we live.

Goodwill SWMI manages ten retail stores (with attached, attended donation centers and one stand-alone donation center), Contract Manufacturing Operations as well as Custodial & Janitorial business units. These business operations provide stability to our organization that is not always enjoyed by nonprofit organizations solely funded by outside sources.

Forklift and Scissor lift Certification

Must have a valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record

Attendance: Regularly scheduled attendance required

Physical: Routinely lifts up to 50 lbs.; occasionally up to 100 lbs.; reads small print; hears sounds associated with mechanical deficiencies; repetitive motion; works with moving parts and vibration; tolerates products, materials, and fumes associated with component maintenance; tolerates working at heights above four feet; tolerates standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing; identifies colors

Environmental: Tolerates working in extreme temperatures and noisy environments

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Facility Maintenance Tech/Custodial Specialist I cleans and maintains shops and company grounds to provide clean and safe working conditions in accordance with Goodwill SWMI approved procedures

This position, with supervision, handles non-hazardous materials regularly and assists with non-hazardous spills

With moderate supervision, cleans and sanitizes shops, lunchrooms and restrooms; this includes scrubbing floors, empting trash and recycling bins, using the appropriate equipment and cleaning chemicals with safe and approved procedures

Safely handles and removes non-hazardous materials and assists with cleaning up of non-hazardous spills, according to approved procedures

With moderate supervision, maintains facility related equipment (scrubbers, spreaders, shop-vac, snow blowers, etc.)

Responds to facilities maintenance requests

Assists with emergency facility situations after normal business hours

as requested

With moderate supervision, maintains Company grounds to ensure cleanliness and safety (i.e. picking up litter, snow removal, ability to operate snow removal equipment, applying de-ice, etc.)

Performs other duties as assigned by management

Physical Requirements Must be able to stand, stoop, bend, walk or kneel five hours per day; must be able to handle, reach, grasp, carry and manipulate objects safely; daily lifting and carrying of 20 lb. loads, occasional lifting of 50 lb load.

Education and Experience

High School education or equivalent preferred

Maintenance experience preferred

Custodial experience preferred

Other

Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen.

The job requires occasional weekend work.
