Facilities Plant Engineer - Mechanical (Contract)
North Charleston, SC, United States (On-site) Contract (12 months) Published a week ago Position Responsibilities: Provides support for the mechanical systems of buildings, equipment installations, and utility systems, including HVAC, chilled water, and compressed air systems. Identifies causes of asset failures and reduces asset capacity using reliability tools and methods such as life cycle analysis, condition-based maintenance, root cause failure methodology, mean time between failures, and fault tree analysis. Analyzes current system performance and future requirements to recommend infrastructure improvements, working with internal and external stakeholders to assess alternatives and impacts. Translates customer needs into design options, producing documents, estimates, and specifications. Selects appropriate materials, equipment, and services by applying engineering principles and methodologies. Participates in conceptual design by analyzing system needs, intended use, and desired outcomes, conducting code research, and developing preliminary design elements for HVAC, chilled water, and compressed air systems. Estimates project resource requirements, identifies materials, equipment, and services, and defines project scope for mechanical system designs. Utilizes appropriate resources to produce design drawings, specifications, and necessary permit applications in line with project requirements. Aligns mechanical system designs with customer specifications, building codes, and applicable laws, applying knowledge of mechanical principles, construction practices, and materials. Supports construction projects by reviewing contractor proposals, coordinating with government/regulatory agencies, and monitoring project progress and vendor/consultant performance. Ensures accuracy and completeness of project documentation, including reviewing contractor redlines and as-built drawings. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. 4+ years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering, specifically with HVAC, chilled water, and compressed air systems in industrial or manufacturing settings. Experience with the integration and troubleshooting of mechanical system controls, including chillers and cooling towers. Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and specifications. Strong background in system reliability, including failure analysis and performance optimization. Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): Experience working with mechanical system service providers and contractors. Familiarity with energy management and sustainability initiatives in industrial settings. Experience working with building automation and control systems. 5+ years of experience in a mechanical engineering, facilities, or maintenance role within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
