Overview

The Radiologic Technologist Cardiac Cath Lab (RT-CCL) works under the supervision of a licensed Cardiologist and assists in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease and cardiac arrhythmias in the Cath Lab. The RT-CCL assists with procedures including basic diagnostic catheterization, IABP placement and operation, and implantation of pacemaker, ICD, and BIV ICD. Responsibilities include room preparation and breakdown (stocking rooms, daily QC checks, radiographic, hemodynamic and computer setup, and room cleanup), adhering to sterilization procedures, monitoring patient status during procedures, providing age- and gender-specific care, and may perform EKG lead placement, blood pressure and pulse oximetry setup for hemodynamic monitoring. The RT-CCL acquires and documents pertinent patient data in the electronic health record and enters data into hemodynamic and X-ray systems. The RT-CCL operates all physiologic and radiographic equipment safely and correctly, assesses room readiness, obtains supplies, and ensures the Cardiac Cath Laboratory team needs are met. The RT-CCL educates the patient about procedure expectations before, during, and after the procedure, including post-procedural limitations and restrictions. Additional duties may include preparing charts, charging procedures, scheduling, and orientation of new staff; completing other duties as assigned. All organizational staff, including this position, are required as a condition of continued employment to prepare for weather emergencies (e.g., hurricanes and flooding threats). Staff may be considered essential and may be required to report to the facility during such events, including reporting to work and sometimes sleeping at the facility. The position may include other duties beyond those designated and may involve float coverage at an alternate facility, department, or assignment. Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a 24-month AMA-approved School of Radiology Technology required. Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience as a diagnostic radiology technologist required. Minimum one (1) year experience in Cardiac Intervention required. Minimum one (1) year experience in Percutaneous Coronary Intervention required. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required (Advanced Registry preferred). Certification with the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) credential preferred. Other: On-call rotation required and must respond within 30 minutes. Special Skills: Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with peers, nursing colleagues, physicians, and department heads. Knowledge of anatomy and radiographic exposure required. Proficiency in radiation protection practices required. Exemplary core customer service skills strongly required. Strong organizational skills required. Seniority level
