Job Description The Small Animal Hospital is recruiting a veterinary technician for the Dermatology service. Technicians provide assistance for all examinations, treatments, and procedures with our faculty, house officers, and veterinary students. Additionally, they are an integral member of the educational team for our students too. The opportunity to work in the dermatology specialty provides our technicians the opportunity to advance their career in their desired field. Overall access to the wide range of treatments and services offered through this service makes it a great opportunity for those considering or already have their specialization (VTS).
Responsibilities
Assist with patient evaluations or rechecks by assisting in patient restraint, obtaining and submitting samples, scheduling with other services for diagnostic or consultation purposes, and providing treatment or medications
Perform general nursing care such as venipuncture, catheter placement, patient restraint, treatments, medication administration, and sample collection
Document in electronic medical records
Perform skin scrapes and cytology
Assist with deep ear flushes, otoscopic exams, biopsies, intradermal skin testing, laser procedures
Prepare allergens for intradermal skin testing and make allergy vaccines
Allergy vaccine administration demonstration and education with clients
Safely handle and assist with exams on both small and large animal patients
Perform basic anesthesia and sedation procedures including patient monitoring and recovery
Schedule The service receives Monday - Friday. May require working earlier than 8:00am or later than 5:00pm
Employment Details This is a full-time, benefited position and is considered essential personnel. A post-offer education verification, background check, and health assessment are required.
Salary Expected Salary: Non-credentialed technician $18-22, Credentialed technician $20-25
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited American Veterinary Medical Association program for veterinary technology OR
Credentialed veterinary technician
