Base pay range: $19.00/hr - $20.00/hr The WIC Nutritionist assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the nutrition and outreach components for the WIC program. They perform comprehensive nutrition education and assessments with individual counseling and group education for WIC participants, including those with high-risk nutrition conditions. This position may include a one-time sign-on bonus of $500 after completing 90 days of successful employment. Schedule is typically Monday–Friday; 35 hours per week. Responsibilities

Promotes breastfeeding as the preferred infant feeding method.

Conducts breastfeeding assessments and provides participant-centered counseling to initiate, establish, exclusively breastfeed, and continue breastfeeding.

Address common breastfeeding concerns and issues related to breast pumps.

Screen and verify applicants for income eligibility and update household information as needed.

Schedule appointments and provide reminder notices.

Track participants’ progress and document outcomes.

Refer participants to a primary provider when issues are beyond staff scope.

Provide information for the Local Agency Compliance and Self-Assessment (LACASA).

Complete and submit reports as required and maintain records per Federal and State requirements.

Provide and document referrals to other health and social services agencies.

Collect information for the nutrition assessment, including anthropometric and hematological data.

Conduct complete nutrition assessments, determine program eligibility, and enroll participants.

Conduct program orientation, explain benefits, issue eWIC card, set up WIC2GO, and provide a list of authorized vendors as needed.

Prescribe, tailor, authorize, issue, and reissue all food packages when applicable.

Provide participant-centered nutrition education (individual/family sessions and group discussions).

Attend WIC clinics as needed and assist with clinic preparation.

Assist in voter registration processes as required.

Support the development and implementation of annual outreach plans and participate in outreach activities and community events.

Help develop and maintain the program’s referral library.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience: Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered (DTR/NDTR) or Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate health-related field with at least 6 credit hours in nutrition.

Other Facts

Participates in and/or supports special program outreach activities, such as Public Health Detailing, classes, support groups, and community events.

On-site attendance is required; some trainings may be out of town.

Working hours will correspond to the needs of participants and program purposes.

Confidentiality applies to all information about program participants and families.

Employee must meet transportation needs as required and have a driver’s license acceptable to the Agency’s standards.

Working Conditions

Constant: Desk work, data entry, and communication with staff and participants.

Frequently: Standing to file and deliver documents; walking within the office area.

Occasionally: Lifting up to 30 pounds; reaching, bending, climbing stairs, and traveling to WIC sites.
