Overview

Biostatistician I role at The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF). This position provides biostatistical support for clinical and/or laboratory research, performing statistical analysis on data from clinical trials and/or research studies. The Biostatistician I participates in cross-functional teams or projects with defined outcomes and performs data analysis with supervisory guidance. This is the first of three Biostatistician levels. This position is in support of the Naval Medical Research Unit San Antonio (NAMRU-SA) at Fort Sam Houston, focusing on gap-driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research, to improve survival, operational readiness, and safety of DoD personnel. The role involves intramural R&D support for four scientific directorates: Directed Energy Health Effects Directorate (DEHE), Combat Casualty Care and Operational Medicine Directorate (CCC&OM), Craniofacial Health and Restorative Medicine Directorate (CH&RM), and Research Services Directorate (RSD). The work entails planning, coordinating, designing, and executing experimental protocols aligned with directorate objectives and the command mission. This position is contingent on contract award. Responsibilities

Provide statistical support to principal investigators in the writing of research proposals, IACUC and IRB protocols, manuscripts, and technical reports. Collaborate with research staff to develop scientifically sound study designs and write the statistical sections of protocols, manuscripts, and technical reports. Generate datasets, tables, figures, and listings to support data analysis using SAS and/or approved statistical programs. Perform quality control checks of SAS or other statistical programs in use. Handle complex SAS programming issues as required. Provide and/or verify sample size calculations, including power analyses. Provide and/or verify calculation of results data, including selection and explanation of statistical methods (e.g., Student’s t-test, ANOVA). Assist with quality control of statistical analyses in research documents (presentations, manuscripts, grants) and support for works clearance. Assist with completion of statistical activities for studies within timelines. Qualifications

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s preferred in Biostatistics or related field Minimum of one (1) year of research-related experience (including with SAS or other approved statistical program) Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Experience in the design of clinical trials Knowledge of medical science and research Ability to communicate effectively Ability to make effective presentations and publish Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance, including background check and drug screening All staff entering labs shall maintain current certification in American Heart Association BLS/Healthcare Provider or American Red Cross CPR or equivalent Physical Capabilities

Lifting: ability to lift materials up to 10 lbs Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods Ability to climb, pull, and lift heavy objects Work Environment
