Job Summary The Radiology Technologist will operate radiographic equipment to produce radiographs of the body for diagnostic purposes, as directed by the ER Physician in accordance with Radiologist protocol. The technologist will position the patient and exam table to obtain optimum views, practice radiation safety using ALARA principles, and protect patients and staff with beam restriction and shielding as applicable.
Each technologist will operate CT scan equipment to produce Computed Tomography (CT) scans as directed by the ER Physician in accordance with Radiologist protocol. The technologist will administer and obtain consent for IV and oral contrast, monitor for reactions, and ensure proper documentation in the patient chart. The goal is patient safety and satisfaction while acquiring diagnostically adequate exams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain awareness of departmental and operational policies.
Assist in equipment maintenance, cleaning, and QA procedures.
Explain benefits and risks of procedures to patients.
Prepare patients for examinations, including contrast administration and IV placement; check labs as needed.
Process pre-exam forms related to contrast, extravasations, pregnancy, and other requirements.
Maintain radiation safety to minimize exposure to patients, staff, and self.
Stay current with Diagnostic Radiology/CT procedures and anatomy knowledge.
Operate radiology/CT equipment and troubleshoot basic issues.
Ensure proper body mechanics when moving patients and equipment.
Communicate problems/concerns to appropriate personnel and ensure safe transportation of patients.
Perform or participate in moderate and waived testing per policies, and interpret results as appropriate.
Maintain inventory and submit restock orders as needed.
Demonstrate teamwork, professionalism, and effective communication with staff, physicians, and leadership.
Adhere to ER policies, safety, infection control, OSHA, and hazardous materials regulations.
Participate in performance improvement activities and maintain confidentiality.
Special duties as assigned and maintain flexibility in staffing.
Qualifications Education and/or Experience: Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program; at least 1 year of radiologic/imaging experience and CT experience.
Ability to read, write, and present information clearly; basic math and data interpretation skills.
Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry; interpret standard instructions and diagrams.
Ability to work under pressure and communicate effectively with patients and staff.
Certifications and Licenses
Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
Current State licensure.
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification as required by Texas and state-specific ARRT considerations.
Other Requirements
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
Physical ability to stand, lift (up to 25 pounds occasionally), and move equipment as needed.
Language, mathematical, and reasoning abilities appropriate to the role.
