Job Summary The Patient Registrar is the professional, personable first point of contact for patients and visitors, providing assistance with reception, scheduling and patient registration. This position is a vital member of the patient care team, facilitating optimal patient flow, ensuring accurate patient demographic and insurance information, and maintaining a courteous, respectful, and patient‑focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct patient interviews for registration, including insurance verification for laboratory, diagnostic imaging, emergency room visits, and EMS calls.
Perform pre‑registration and insurance verification over the phone for scheduled appointments and surgeries.
Maintain patient schedules, reschedule appointments, and ensure timely completion of appointments within established guidelines.
Verify insurance eligibility, obtain authorizations, and collect co‑payments at registration.
Collect and return patient valuables per department procedure; collect co‑pays and deductibles or refer to PFS representative.
Obtain all necessary releases, consent to treat, and other required signatures for registration.
Assist other departments with registration processes and provide assistance to Patient Access staff as needed.
Operate the main hospital switchboard, answering inbound calls, utilizing overhead paging, and transferring to appropriate destinations.
Balance cash on hand, receive and record payments, keep ledger and deposits accurate, and maintain safe procedures for patient valuables.
Provide comprehensive hand‑off of all pertinent information to the incoming shift.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; advanced education preferred.
One (1) year of previous medical office experience preferred with prior experience using an electronic health record.
Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHM) or Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist (CRCS) certification preferred.
Ability to understand and apply medical terminology.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills across various workstations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact professionally with patients, families, staff, and professional affiliates.
Attention to detail and a patient‑first focus in all interactions.
Work Hours & Compensation Per Diem (On‑call), Variable Shifts – Monday thru Sunday. Wage Range: $20,273 – $36,656.
