First (Days) Hours
Monday – Friday, day shift, with call every 4th week to include the weekend. Either 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. About the department
The noninvasive team at Sentara Martha Jefferson includes RNs, Cardiovascular Technicians, and Sonographers seeing an average of 7 patients a day, inpatient and outpatient. The Echocardiographer must live within a 30-minute drive of the hospital for call purposes. Responsibilities
Perform two-dimensional echocardiograms, Doppler echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiograms, and stress echocardiograms to evaluate heart and vessel abnormalities for the evaluation of heart disease and blood flow abnormalities. Complete the technologist report in the structured report application. Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Cardiovascular Technology preferred Graduate of an accredited echocardiography program (or equivalent education) per IAC Guidelines Certification
Basic Life Support within 90 days of hire ACLS within 90 days of hire Adult echocardiography registry (RCCS or RCS or RDCS) required within 12 months of hire Experience
1 year echocardiography experience is highly preferred Two-dimensional echocardiography Clinical experience in an acute setting Ability to manage complex cases in fast-paced environments Effective communication with patients and providers Knowledge of measuring heart structures Ability to visualize potentially critical findings Benefits
